TimeLines (BotCon) 2013 discussion

Ancillary, non-main-line stuff. Star Wars TF, Speed Stars, Titanium Series, Robot Heroes, that sort of thing. They're kinda neat, but we all know they're not really that important. Admit it, you know it's true.

You mean TF2010/Yellow-box Hubcap? That's a great mold that deserves a recolor or two. A Laser Rod of some sort would be a good choice.

Cybershark/Hammerstrike? (I forget what happened there....)
TFwiki has BM Hammerstrike listed as an incarnation of Cybershark from BW. This is based on the fact that...their tech spec profiles are kinda similar. Seriously.
Ironically, I have been procrastinating about recolouring the 2006 gun as Megaplex for about 2 years now. (I really just do not like the mould enough to want to fiddle with it that much.)
I really like that mold, I still pull it out and fiddle with it regularly. A lot of it's the transformation, the way you expect a straight shellformer when you pull the sides apart but then, surprise, there's a nifty amount of rearranging and assembly waiting for you to put together this big, cool robot mode. Plus the little touches like the way the knee pads slide up, and the clips on the wings fold away. It's a very well-designed toy.

What can I say, I dig Machine Wars. I'm actually selfishly hoping they'll do Prowl, if only because 'MWprowl' is my fallback screen-name anywhere I stumple upon that 'BWprowl' manages to already be taken (it's happened a couple of times!).

The issue with Hubcap these days is that most Cliffjumper toys are repaints of Bumblebee, so recoloring a given Cliffjumper back into yellow would be pretty pointless.
That's why I said to repaint him from Windcharger!
I find it curious that the Japanese lines have never tried to retroactively foist BB in with the other Seekers.
The Black Starscream in question said that he was using "Black Body" technology, and that sounds like a shoehorn in if I ever heard of one.
Shattered Glass. Rodimus was in a souvenir set the first year they did SG, and Cyclonus came out as a Club store exclusive a while later.
Bugger me.
You’re totally right on Megaplex though, I vehemently maintain that he’s as close as MW gets to an ‘iconic’ character, and was the sole unique, interesting idea to come out of the line.
Don't forget Thundy's changed bio note! Which will probably be completely ignored!
Dom wrote:Windcharger as Hubcap? I dunno. I would love to see that mould get used again, (and even a limited release from Fun Publications would be helpful). But, I am not seeing it as Hubcap.

They may as well recolour RTS Hubcap, another under-distributed mould.
He'd just be a big, yellow Windcharger. It could work. Although you're right--I forgot about RTS Hubcap.
Cybershark/Hammerstrike? (I forget what happened there....)
The Wiki claims that Cybershark from BW and Hammerstrike from BM are the same character...because fanon said so in 2000. (Hammerstrike has a similar bio, I guess?)

Pics of Hoist's vehicle mode are up.

The windows are apparently a solid grey, rather than clear. I can accept that sort of thing on a Legend or even a Scout. On a deluxe, it feels cheap. And, it is unacceptable on a toy that will cost as much as a BotCon figure.

Remember, though, these are hand-painted mockups. Wait and see?

As odd as it may seem, there's a huge chunck of the TF internet fans who want & beg for painted, solid colored car/vehicle mode windows. they apparently dis-like clear transparent plastic car/vehicle windows. they hate transparent clear windows because they say when they look inside the windows they see no seats,no interior, folded up robot parts that look awful.

I actually prefer clear transparent car/vechicle windows. because I feel it looks more Beautiful, more realistic & higher age adult themed.

I have a hard time believing it.

I will say though that painted windows bother me less if the whole robot is consistent about it. If the side windows are painted but the windshield is translucent, it almost looks like they came from different toys.

Gotta say--did not see ROTF Dirge retool coming. Doesn't look particularly 'good,' though.

0 for 2 on this one, TFCC. Keep cracking at it--maybe when you get to Megaplex, you'll figure it out.

Hm, I'd considered the idea of them using that mold, but written it off. And here I actually think it looks pretty good! Granted, that's a really, really bad shoop they've got there, so the actual toy might end up looking rather different, but I like the idea (that light purple just does it for me), plus the base mold is one that I like. Curious as to what this'll look like as Thundercracker (and as you brought up, I also wonder how the comic will handle MW's 'Rebel' Thundercracker as a character).

Get this noise-ass noise! From their dang-ass twitter page:

"Since we approached this as a "Machine Wars: Series 2" we were not looking at just doing "updates and homages". We wanted these 2 b UPGRADES
We wanted to add new play features to the "upgrades", offer new characters to the Machine Wars line & with one other character, use as cont.
mold that truly captures the personality and might of that character. Looking forward to the next 3 reveals."

So basically the other three dudes in the set won't be MW at all, period. Wow.

Don't fuck up Megaplex, you jerks.

I generally don't like to use this turn of phrase, but a lot of the time, I fall under the impression that FunPub really doesn't 'get it'.

At this rate, I'm kinda hoping Megaplex just ends up in a souvenir set so he'll be somewhat easier to come by on eBay.
