When I post, I do occasionally realise that the majority of my real-life friends have NO idea I'm doing it, much less that you guys even exist. That's so weird to me. You're my SECRET FRIENDS ahahahaha
Dom is actually one of my real life friends. I've known him for something like fifteen years.

That's a lot of toilet-themed picture messages.

Actually, it has been closer to 20 years. Until I got the cell phone a few years ago, it was mostly phone calls, emails, and occassional inappropriate touching.

That said, if not for places like this, I do not know how much into the hobby I would be. I know somebody who is more into the hobby than I am, but he does not discuss them online, even though much of his real time socializing is related to TF or similar hobbies.

I.. wat? How does that work? I'm *trying* (emphasis) not to sound like a dumbass here, but how does that work? BotCon is only once a year! Does he hang out at toy stores? That's actually pretty cool.

He happens to know local TF fans, (including myself), or fans of other things he is interested in.

Dom

Oh, ok, but the way you said it implied that fandom actually formed a large part of the discourse that occurred while he was hanging out. Like, rather than going for a beer, or a dance, he'd go on playdates or TF cartoon marathons in old theatres.

Which are also, admittedly, excellent ideas.

That was wonderful.

A fair amount of the discourse is hobby focused. So, think of it as going out for a beer and talking about TFs.

Of course, "going out" translates as "staying in" and "beer" translates into "highly caffeinated drink".

But, you get the idea.

Depends on the store. Toy Fusion out here actually encourages it as it caters to the "toy geek" demographic.

Try hanging around the toy aisle at Target, and just wait for the dirty looks.

Seriously, on some days, when I am pondering a purchase, or just glaring angrily at an empty peg wall, or maybe staring sadly at rows of badly painted "Captain America" figures, it is not unusual to have people look at, and then avoid, me.

Well yeah, department stores are another issue. Although I don't usually have issues there. I mostly tend to run into people that are cool about stuff.
