Ooooh. Man. I feel like part of the problem by talking about it more, but you know what would have gotten me to buy one of the Fake Watchmen books? If they'd gotten Morrison on one of 'em. Imagine Morrison writing Dr. Manhattan! Of course, I guess you could read the Superman 3-D Final Crisis tie-in if you wanted that. Still, I wonder why DC didn't gun for that.

In other news, apparently Aquaman outsold every Marvel book this past month. While I wouldn't read that at gunpoint, I gotta give DC some props for that. Because seriously, who'd have ever imagined that would ever happen?

Aquaman is a good book. It's worth your time to check it out.

Better yet: Imagine a *Dr. Manhattan* book in all its glory, in 3D!

Anyway, to respond to what Six was talking about earlier: it's not a question of whether they might be good or not. Maybe some of these writers *will* write awesome stories out of this. But it's not worth it, because Watchmen just isn't the kind of story that you should do this with. It's like, this is why people looked sideways at Lucas when he made a fourth Indiana Jones. With some things, you just don't *do* the sequel/prequel/expansion thing. Is nothing sacred?

I love that people- people I know, anyway- still refer to the Star Wars Trilogy.

That stuff with Jar-Jar and the clones just may as well not have happened.

For me the two trilogies are like comparing the G1 cartoon to the Marvel Comic.

Hey, I love the Young Indy series. Hard to believe it's the same character we saw in the movies, but it's a good show regardless.

think Prowl's main point is that if this new thing is going to be "it's own story" then why bother making it a "Watchmen" story and instead make it something that actually is totally new?

And, there is nothing at all wrong with that. Why should DC or Lucas or Marvel or anybody not exploit an asset? Why not build off of an established property. Even if you want to argue for author intent, Moore has turned his back on "Watchmen". It should also be noted that Moore is author by contract only. He was hired to write "Watchmen" on behalf of DC, arguably making them the true author.

I have not seen the fourth "Indiana Jones" movie, and likely will not. But, that is because I am just not interested in the movie at all, not because it is a corruption of "Indiana Jones". The same people who complain about the prequlels often speak well of "Return of the Jedi" even as the acknowledge the ewoks being a bad idea. The fact that any of the prequels, aside from possible Episode I, are better than Episode 6 does not seem to register with them.

The new "Watchmen" books are going to sell. They are going to sell to mainstream readers. They might bring new people in to the hobby. And, they might even be good.

I am *not* a fan of MJS' work in comics. But, even I am going to give him a chance on this one. (Well, sort of. I ain't likely buying the books, but you know what I mean.)

How on earth are prequels to a 20-year-old book going to 'bring new people into the hobby'? If the hype around the movie didn't get enough new people to start reading comics, then the amount of new readers tie-ins to that book can bring in is even smaller. I mean, these are *prequels* to *Watchmen*; they're aimed squarely at 'hardcore' comics fans, many of whom (myself included) revile the concept just on principle.
