On a Mission
Re: On a Mission
I've never really found any Zelda game.. "challenging" per se. Zelda, for me, is like reading a comfy old book. ALttP and OoT in particular are games I can complete 100% with barely being hit, or getting lost or whatever; no surprises, but I love every minute of it! The only puzzle in a Zelda game that's EVER given me trouble was... like, some lizard-themed dungeon in Oracle of Seasons... or maybe Ages? It had these revolving doors and moldorms everywhere, and it absolutely KILLED a six hour flight I was on. Not even in an enjoyable way. O_o
Just beat Dynasty Warriors 5 with Meng Huo, after a relatively light work day. Only 20-odd more characters to go! >_< I love this game.

I meant to reply to this, pages ago, but it slipped my mind. I love Rival Schools! Akira is one of my favorite fighters of all time in any fighting game. The rest of the cast is pretty awesome too, but Akira stands at the top for me. I love the fighting mechanics and tag-teaming the oppoenent. Yeah, tag-teaming is no big deal these days, but it's still incredibly satisfying to do here. Especially because not every tag-team deals out an attack. Sometimes you get a nice back massage or a kiss from the ladies to restore your staminaBWprowl wrote: Also finally got a working Dreamcast emulator so I could play Project Justice. That was elating. Blasted through all the story modes in a coupla days to unlock all the characters, and now my friends and I have been throwing down on it for fun whenever we're hanging out together. This is probably my favorite fighting game ever, and I've played a *lot* of fighting games.

Re: On a Mission
True, I did have fun playing it the whole way through, so I hope it didn't sound like I was bashing it. There was one puzzle in particular that I hated where I was supposed to hit a switch with my boomerang, but the switch was hidden so far off-screen that my boomerang could barely even reach it. Still a fun game though. Sometimes a nice breezy game like that is a good thing.Gomess wrote:I've never really found any Zelda game.. "challenging" per se. So all this talk about KOF 13 got me curious and I went to check out the official site. I see what you guys are saying about Athena and Yuri. The way they're drawn, they don't even look like they belong in the same game as the rest of the roster. And yeah, something about the way Yuri stands says "shy" to me instead of the confident Sakura-type she actually is. Athena just looks like a little girl. Wow. Don't know how the other grappler guys used to look, but I'll take your word on it. Mai's boobs are even more ridiculous than ever. Is she trying to compete with the DOA girls?
Re: On a Mission
My favourite underrated 3D fighters are so underrated no one's played them. Toshinden Subaru, with its insane super moves and stage traps? Bugi / Kensei with its diverse and well-researched fighting styles? Bloody Roar 2, with its simple but SATISFYING gimmick and art-filled story mode?
Also, has anyone here played the original PS1 version of Star Gladiator? I wanted to like it. I really did. BUT THE CONTROLS DON'T WORK. I'm serious, I can't pull off a combo of more than 2 hits with *anyone*. I just don't get it. How can Capcom make Rival Schools work so well, and then......??
The day KoF feels the need to compete with DoA is the day I retire. D= But yeah, KoF's art direction hasn't impressed me since 2002... Wonder why that is...

I remember seeing a big thing about Bloody Roar 2 in a magazine and thinking, "why is that guy wearing a bikini?" Only to find out that "that guy" was a body-building girl. *shiver* Or was it the other way around? I can't remember.
And yeah, I know that Mai has always always been eye candy, but she never used to bounce around *that* much. . . did she?

Re: On a Mission
Booo. I doubt that was BR2, 'cos it could only have been Marvel, and she's rather buxom as well as muscular. It was probably BR1, and the character in question would be Fox, who is in fact a man. The American localisers pretended he was a woman because they were scared of the gay. But the original designers are just as guilty of being wusses for taking massive middle-aged Mitsuko out from the first game, who was a *completely* original character design, and remains so. But fighting girls have to be sexyyyy. Yawn.Mako Crab wrote:Only to find out that "that guy" was a body-building girl. *shiver*
Ever since KoF '94, pretty much, yeah. =/ It's only toned down in the Garo games, where her costume is sliiightly more conservative. I think it was fighting game designs like Mai that made me such a Leona fan, so I'll thank her for that at least. =pMako Crab wrote: And yeah, I know that Mai has always always been eye candy, but she never used to bounce around *that* much. . . did she?
I remember reading an article in Nintendo Magazine about DoA's revolutionary "bosom algorithms". And then it didn't even come out on N64! Hohum!

Yeah, that's the one! Just looked up some pics of Mitsuko, and I have to say that, even if she had been younger, her character design is pretty plain and boring. I can see why she got the boot. Granted, it is cool that they'd at least represent other female body types and ages for a change.Gomess wrote:Booo. Which is funny, because any and every athletic girl I've ever known has always worn a sports bra to prevent bouncing as it tends to be kind of a nuisance when you're doing track or kicking some ass.And yeah, I know that Mai has always always been eye candy, but she never used to bounce around *that* much. . . did she?

Now I'm just curious. Quick poll. Who are your favorite fighting game girls? Say top 10 or so. And do your favorites tend to wear more or less clothes?
Re: On a Mission
I don't buy that. If Mitsuko's boring, why did Yugo stay in? =/ 'Cos he's conventionally attractive, natch. There's times when a designer needs to say, "I don't care if most of the fans don't like this character, originality is more important than pandering". Oh well!
Uh... based on your "liking a little bounce" comment I have to clarify that these are the fighting game characters I like playing as the most who happen to be women. I don't want to sleep with them.
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:
Leona from KoF, for her bizarre stances and tokusatsu references. Lots of clothes, shows a sliver of her midriff I guess.
Mitsuko from Bloody Roar, because I enjoy the novelty of playing as a female heavyweight, and she has a great voice. Lots of clothes.
Millia from Guilty Gear, because I can beat god himself with her. Shows off her legs, everything else covered.
Kornelia from Bugi, because everything from her appearance to her fighting style makes it easy to psych people out with her. Very creepy. Big baggy jeans but a tight mesh top and pigtails makes her a 50:50 on skankiness.
Mamiya from Hokuto no Ken - Shinpan no Sososei Kengo Retsuden. Granted, the game doesn't give you a lot of choice, her being the ONLY playable woman, but she stands out as one of the few fighting game characters to ride a motorbike during a fight.
Angel from KoF, for her ridiculously broken fighting style and the fact she's Mexican. Outfit solely designed to accentuate her T 'n' A.
Shaina from Saint Seiya - The Hades, because... she's my favourite character from the series. No nudity to speak of. Heck, she wears a mask because of institutionalised sexism.
Eos from Toshinden Subaru, because she fights with her eyes closed of her own volition, and summons massive chunky 3D dragons to fly around the arena. Wears one of those flowing white stereotypical Ancient Greek goddess dresses that leaves most of her to the imagination.

I had a demo of Bloody Roar 2 and so wanted the full game. Wish they'd make a new one of that, it could be cool.Gomess wrote:My favourite underrated 3D fighters are so underrated no one's played them. Did you play Twilight Princess at all? It's equally Not That Challenging (which I honestly don't mind; I'm no difficulty whore) as OoT or LTTP, if you haven't. Anyway, about halfway through the game there's this really fun, weird dungeon where you're basically inside a yeti's house...gathering ingredients for the soup to make his wife better. It's really lighthearted and hilarious in some ways while also being pretty disturbing (How do these people just...live there, with all these monsters around?) but there's two entirely seperate REALLY annoying block-pushing puzzles in it that took me literally hours.Gomess wrote:I've never really found any Zelda game.. Ugh. Reminds me of the tiles in Phantom Hourglass that I had to hammer on until they all flipped over from blue to red tiles. Did not enjoy those.but there's two entirely seperate REALLY annoying block-pushing puzzles in it that took me literally hours.
Couldn't tell you. I do have to agree with you though. It'd be nice to see some more originality, or at least creators dictating what to do with their characters instead of being told by the fans. That's how Goro made it back into MK: Deception on the Wii as a bad guy again after having joined with the good guys to bring down Shao Kahn and nobly going down in battle. But no. The fans kept crying for him to come back, so the MK Team brings him back in the worst way possible, serving Kahn again. Bleh.Gomess wrote:I don't buy that. For my own top 10 list of fighting girls. . .
Chun Li- Still a favorite after all these years. Shows off her thighs. Knee high boots hide everything from the knee down. Shows off herr panties when she spins upside down. In the Alpha series she wears spandex pants that cover up everything.
Akira- From Rival Schools. Wears full biker gear. Trying to hide her gender from the guys. Her alt costume keeps the biker pants, but she wears a camo tank top. Nothing slutty.
Ibuki- Street Fighter 3. Has giant slits in her pants like giant pockets, revealing her bare hips. Everything else is covered.
Hisen Ko- Darkstalkers. Cleavage window. Nothing else.
Sareena- MK Armageddon. Admittedly, because I liked her in MK Mythologies where her costume was a little more conservative. Wears a thong with double straps. Lots of leg, mid-riff, bare arms. Yeah, she definitely belongs in the MK universe. Totally slutty, but she throws knives like a woodchipper throws chips.
Yuri- KoF. fun look and plays somewhat like Ryu, so she's easy to pick up and play.
Seung Mina- Soul Calibur series. Lots of leg, long loin cloth, and a tube top kind of thing that shows glimpses of what she's not wearing underneath (if you're looking at the official art). I prefer this costume, though her alternate covers her up entirely while still looking good.
Talim- Soul Calibur series. Another tube top. Aside from that, shows off her knees and her mid riff. Doesn't come across as skanky to me though.
Jam- Guilty Gear. Lots of leg and a short skirt/thing that barely covers her ass. And a tight top, but no skin showing.
