Target: 2006, man. Granted, Galvatron ends up being fooled by a rather rudimentary scheme by the Autobots. Galvatron claims that he kills Starscream in 2006 (which he does, re: TFTM), so the Autobots...take Skywarp and paint him up like Starscream, and force Galvatron to kill him. Galvatron realizes, because he kills Starscream in 2006, he cannot possibly also kill Starscream in 1986, and decrees that this is not his past, and he'll leave now, sorry for the intrusion.
Galvatron only becomes crazy in later UK stories like Time Wars, where the actual fact of 'meeting Megatron' screws with his mind, because he's remembering seeing himself as Megatron seeing Galvatron come from the future, but now he's Galvatron, and he's seeing things happen as Galvatron, and it gets all confusing for him and then the timestorm swallows him.

Re: Maximum Dinobots TPB
Technically, the Galvatron O6 is talking about was not Megatron....it was Straxus. (Trust me. The evidence is in "Time Wars".)
There are at least 2 other Galvatrons though. The UK comics introduced another Galvatron for the post-"Time Wars" future. And, then there was yet another Galvatron, (who was definitely nuts), introduced for the late run US comics. His future did not match season 3 of the cartoon, nor pre-, nor even post-"Time Wars". This is the Galvatron that fought Fortress Maximus in issue 79 of the comic.
Some of the UK comics are worth reading. But, many of them benefit from a sort of "Emperor's New Clothes" dynamic. Enough people just say they are good, and nobody really disagrees.
Pick up:
-Target: 2006
-Time Wars
-Dinobots
"City of Fear" is pretty friggin' awful.
Dom
-still likes "Man of Iron" the best.

This is the one I'm familiar with, apart from the television version of course.Dominic wrote:And, then there was yet another Galvatron, (who was definitely nuts), introduced for the late run US comics. I don't know, I've reached the point where I just don't enjoy the older issues as much, which is why I haven't been tempted by Best of UK up to this point. I can still read G2 and the later G1 Marvel run, but some of those early issues just don't hold up very well. Either I don't like the writing, the art, or both. Even some of Furman's first few Matrix quest issues are a little lame... mind-draining space cowboys who are really aliens? The hard-boiled detective story rip-off? The last few issues are pretty good and most of the series from that point on has decent art and writing, but a lot of the earlier material is just barely readable. Some of the UK comics are worth reading. I started picking up Target 2006 when IDW reprinted it with new covers, and just wasn't impressed. When Ultra Magnus announces, in the third person "It's time for Ultra Magnus to go to Earth" (or words to that effect), it's just silly.
Re: Maximum Dinobots TPB
Yeah, that Ultra Magnus scene is pretty bad. But, I blame it on Hasbro/Editorial directives.
And, yeah, "Matrix Quest" is pretty over-rated.
Trust me on "Dinobots" though.
Dom
-still thinks Budiansky deserves more respect.

Re: Maximum Dinobots TPB
Hey, I like Budiansky too. He had a good knack for broader stories, and was really good with longer ones that shook up the status quo effectively. Really good at character juggling, that guy. And some of the most delightful melodramatic narrative in comics. I read the new version of the TFTM comics that came out a couple years back just because of the added narration bits from Budiansky, they were a delight.
What was your beef with City of Fear, Dom? I'll admit that the story was decompressed a bit, but the payoff was pretty good, especially since it gave us Flame, still the only genuinely villainous Autobot (though that may change depending on how far IDW pushes Prowl in his current direction. I'm really interested in seeing if that storyline pans out.). And you can't even blame your hatred of it on the zombies, since that story came out way before this zombie craze we're currently in the middle of.

Re: Maximum Dinobots TPB
My hatred of zombies predates the craze actually. And, Flame is way the heck over-hyped.
And, while I disagree with about IDW Prowl really being that bad, I would like to see the idea played with a bit more. All things considered though, it is unlikely to go anywhere with the current soft-reboot.
Dom-likes the more obscure UKraine stories better actually.

Interestingly, I liked Flame before I found out how over-hyped he was, but that's just me.Dominic wrote:My hatred of zombies predates the craze actually. And, Flame is way the heck over-hyped.

And I wouldn't count anything out of the soft-reboot. Most of the AHM Coda stuff is setup material for whatever comes next, so we might very well see the Prowl thing get more development. I really really hope so, anyway.
