There's that, although I've never personally seen a green ambulance.
I see nothing wrong with fans asking for a "MASK" revival. They are just telling Hasbro what they want to see. And, "MASK" as a line is *really* under-appreciated. I had a few as a kid, but was never really into it. There are a few, really beaten up, pieces at the local comic store. I would not bother with any of them as toys unto themselves, (as they are all missing bits or really scuffed), but I can see how good they would be if completed. I can even see lobbying for a favorite character.
It's not so much that they're asking for a MASK revival, but the fact that they keep clamouring about it despite that it was said multiple times that Matt Trakker Is A One Off Figure There Is No MASK Revival.
(I am lucky in that most of the guys I really want have just been coming out naturally, with Mutt and Junkyard pretty much delivering what I really wanted since mid-'07. My only real long-shots are Law and Order, Raptor and Recondo. Recondo is not completely un-realistic. And, Doctor Mindbender is really only a matter of time.)
Mindbender was vaguely announced in a statement a while ago that basically said "Here's some guys that're coming out. We can't tell you when." Zap was also in the list.
What irks me is the fact that so many Joe fans have failed to learn from other franchises, (SW, Trek, or TF), and insist on the franchise being exactly what it was 20+ years ago. No matter how they dress it up, most complaints from Joe-fans come down to "it is not what I had growing up, assuming I ever did grow up". Do they have to like everything? No. But, I find it strange they only like things that harken back to the days before 1986.
Well, not 'all' of them are like that, a lot will go with new stuff, like some of the reviewers. The Bazooka Troopah is a big hit, I've seen, but a lot of people bitch because he's a lighter shade of blue. Yes, they will bitch because he is not the same shade of blue as the other Troopers. Also, Hasbro's recent red-symbol single carded Trooper has a red mask, which made a bunch of people pissy because...they wanted to army build them with *black* masks! Jesus.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Also, I picked up the Springer/Ratbat pack last night after discussing it with 86. I don't have either of these moulds. I cracked open Ratbat and brought him to work to fiddle with, and he's damn fiddly fun. Springer looks to be Just Alright. I always intended to get Evac, but I either never saw him or there was always something cooler out, so this helps. I dig Ratbat a lot, at least, so it's worth it for that alone, to me.

Picked up a second Universe Ironhide to customize. I'm planning on painting the bright blue on the windows a silver color, along with the face. Not sure there's any fix for the panel gaps on the SUV though.

I can see fans being annoyed wth the endless variations of troopers. If somebody wants to troop-build, they want to troop-build uniformly, not have a mis-matched army of variants.

Whenever I see a new variant of Cobra-trooper, I have to wonder if it is worth army-building or if it will be a harder to get variant. The more desireable troops are the ones in boxed sets. And, even then, they are inconsistent, having different colored stapping, being gloved/bare-handed, etc.

Then, Hasbro releases an incorrectly colored trooper (silver sigil), and for the longest time, that was the only common trooper. Now, they are releasing *another* variant of trooper. While the red-mask trooper may not be a bad toy, plenty of people have gon out of their way to army-build black-mask troopers and now have to start over. I can totally see being annoyed about that. (Hasbro just needs to pick a proper color scheme and make it easy to get.)

I could see the masks representing different squads, and would happily have, say, six of each flavour. Of course, this is all hypothetical, since Joe is not released here and I don't troopbuild.

Anyhoo, have gotten some neat bits and bobs of late:

- A badass benchtop grill from my grandmother. Huge thing, like a Foreman on steroids, I swear I could grill a whole large pizza in there. There shall be much grilling, oh yes, there shall.

- Agent Smith glasses. Yes, I now have glasses like Hugo Weaving's from The Matrix. Specifically the first movie with the straight nosepiece. They're neat. And geektastic.

- Premium Movie Prime. The mighty clearance has begun, and Movie Crap is 50% off. Whee!

Teen Titans/Outsiders: The Insiders- Got this while Christmas shopping yesterday. It's the bridging story between TT volumes 4 and 5 that I've been meaning to grab for the longest time. And it's only ten dollars? The hell have I been doing?

Negima!? Part 1 DVD set- Woo, it are out! Of course, this is only the first half, aka the episodes I already watched on YouTube. But hey, now they'll be all high-resolutiony and legal, so there's that. Probably my last anime purchase of the year too.

Man, I wish I could find that on clearance around here.

That's pigeonholing if I ever saw it, since I'm army building Troopers just buy, usually, buying one of every variant. Granted, I'm probably atypical, but I don't think I could justify "regular" army building because then...well, I'm buying the same thing I already own! Again! Yes, I know that's the point, but it still feels pointless, somehow. I felt bad buying the extra Universe Sideswipe for customizing last night.

Speaking of, besides him, I got:
-25th Air Officer pack or whatever. It's got Wild Bill, Ace and Skyduster, who is a Starduster homage. I own neither Wild Bill or Ace in any other incarnation, and these ones don't actually look too bad, so I'm good.
-Beachhead & Mainframe/Dataframe comic pack. Amazed I found this.
-AniShockwave! Woo! He was the only one there.

I really liked Hammerstrike. Weird design, very Eva-esque, shame he's fragile. Dig that the hammerhead turns into a hammer, heh.

So, exchanged christmas gifts with a few friends today, that netted me:

- A nifty Megatron shirt. Darkish blue, G1 Megs on it, and he's shiny silver. Shiiiny.
- Premium Movie Jazz. More shiny stuff, whee!
