How much did those Zyurangers run you? I'll admit I'm tempted, but everything I've read on /toy/ implies that stuff like this goes fast, and once it's gone, that's it.

I wish I had more to report, but you know. Moving and stuff.

I got the MMPR-packaged versions through US distributor Bluefin, ordered through the hobby shop my brother works at (many comic and/or hobby stores should be able to place orders through Bluefin for you) for a little under forty bucks each, which is about what the Japanese versions would run you with shipping. I'm not sure if Bluefin still has stock available to be ordered, and my usual Japanese toy-retailer, AmiAmi, is sold out of both of them, with Green/Dragon Ranger listed on 'Back-Order'.

Not necessarily! Bandai/Tamashii actually do reissues of popular figures irregularly. Kamen Rider W CycloneJoker has been reissued at least three times, for instance. So with the unsurprising rampant popularity of the Zyuranger/MMPR Figuarts, it's entirely possible you'll get a chance at another pressing later if you miss this round.

(That said, if you're going to want the whole team, I would jump the fuck on Bluefin's currently-going preorder on Pink, since she's a Tamashii website exclusive in Japan, and those almost never get reissued.)

Yeah, well, you could do a lot worse. It's a neat figure, if flawed. It kind of advertises suckiness right off the bat by having the box be twice as big as it needs to be. Just makes things look cheesy. Then there's a couple toys, Sinnertwin in particular, that just pull apart if you look at 'em funny. And the thing is, I'm still okay with this. I like smaller combiners. Maybe it's that when I was first getting back into collecting I lucked into a really nice knockoff Sixbuilder, but I've always liked a bunch of little dudes that become one decent-sized dude. Maybe there's just an appeal to me, like, you couldn't get away with some of this stuff with a full-sized toy, but with some little dudes some sins are forgivable? I dunno.

Maybe it's just that this is the fourth toy I've bought in stores this year, and being so selective makes me easily amused, too. Way see it, the worst thing about the Abominus set is the price. Five bucks for each of the little guys seemed a bit steep to me, but it's easier to justify a purchase like this when you buy less in general. Once I got 'em, though, I had a great time messing with each one and figuring out different ways for each figure to hold his weapon.

I love the weapons to no end. I've got Hun-Grr using his Hammer as a tenderizer hammer. Cutthroat wields his crossbow as a scythe. Blot's got the only unique weapon out of the set, so bayonetted filth pistol for him. Sinnertwin's got a rad pistol, and Rippersnapper has a hold of a crossbow. The weapon's different pegs make for some variety and some fun figuring out which way of holding each one suits each character better. It's a fun set, like I say.

I know I'm using the G1 names for each character, but for one thing, who cares about the Prime names really? For another, the box can't even be bothered to get them right, labeling, say, "Twinstrike" as "Windrazor" or somesuch, and for a third, Windrazor is still a stupid name and Cutthroat is better. I actually like the name Blight, though, and that dude just leaking all sorts of atomic hell from each joint sets him apart from Skalor, at least.

If the worst thing about him is the price, that's not that bad considering the set is $5 a piece while individually it would run $8 each. That saves at least $15 right. Which would be enough for one of those Generations deluxes.

What shithole do you live in that Legends/Legion are eight bucks?! They never go past six dollars over here.

Oh yeah, I grabbed Generations Starscream w/Waspinator. Starscream's a remarkably solid GI Joe-sized figure of the character on his own, and if Waspinator makes for kind of a shitty gun for him, he's a decent enough mini-Waspinator figure on his own to not really worry about it.

Sacramento. I was rounding up, but on average, they're 6.99 plus tax.

'Twas my birthday on the 30th, the big 21. I got a lot of hooch including some Champagne my mother picked up while we were in France, plenty of dosh, a pair of gaming headphones and a laptop cooling pad for school, and IDW megs. Life's good.

BWprowl wrote:Thanks for the heads-up, JT, the Sandtrooper was the one from this first Black Series wave I was interested in (and I've seen him on the shelf a couple times already), now I know it can safely be avoided. It really does suck to hear that after the opportunity to create something really special with this line (6-inch-scale, premium-format Star Wars figures! What could go wrong?) Hasbro's let the execution be botched this badly. I'll wait to see if they ever put out a Palpatine, that'd be the one exception I would make, provided they don't totally blow it.
I'm told that I'm entirely wrong on the Sandtrooper, except for the hands where I'm entirely right. :p
That said, since the line was revealed, I've been saying Hasbro should be ashamed of themselves for trying to sell that R2-D2 at the same price-point as the other toys. At least stick it in a two-pack with C-3PO for 30-35 bucks or something.
FULLY.
Shockwave wrote:But that does follow with their other lines. 3 3/4" scale R2-D2 goes for the same price as other figures so why wouldn't that apply to the larger scale?
Because we're up to $20 a pop now, and fuck them for gouging. At the very least, more gimmicks and better looking. The deco is cheap white plastic, couldn't even get the right white coloring.
I dunno if there's any other features beyond that as I have yet to buy the figure, but it is on my list of things to get. So I guess I'll take one for the team on this one.

I do see what you mean about the detail for the smaller versions though, that one with the drink tray is easily the best one at that scale.
It should have been accurate to scale (larger), it should have been sculpted better, it should have been deco'ed better, it should have had dome gimmicks that worked better, it didn't need the prequel leg jet gimmick since the rest of the stuff is OT, it didn't need a pain in the ass rotate-dome-to-lower-middle-leg gimmick that gimps the whole figure.

Oh shit, happy birthday AU! No alcohol poisoning neither, congrats! French champagne, tres magnifique!
