I just hope they produce a gift set option where you can get the whole thing together without hunting. Otherwise I have no faith that all five would be on the same shelf at the same time (and given their past record on this, even in the same city at the same time). It could be Energon all over again.

Eh, I've got like five Targets, a couple Wal-Marts, and a TRU down here, each with their own different ordering schedules and styles. I WILL find these things, I don't care how much work it takes.
At least with the Energon guys you only needed four Basics period to make a Gestalt, and since each of the limbs was replicated once anyway, you could just buy two of each if you wanted the full themed Combiner. One of the few upshots to Scramble City, I suppose (cool that this new Bruticus looks to have each component dedicated to a limb, in my opinion).

Oh man, don't even tempt me. I love how everyone- fans and Habsor alike- just silently accept that Pretenders shouldn't be redone because they Totally Suck, Dude. When in truth it's because the concept's kinda silly... or at least, relatively sillier than the combiner concept. 'Cos I mean, really, were the Scramble City combiners that good? =| If that concept deserves such rehashing, I think Pretenders do. Pretenders using modern toy engineering could be ace.

I agree about Pretenders. The old toys sucked. They were some of the worst that I remember. But, with modern engineering, Pretenders could be worth while. Assume a $20 price-point. Make the figures informally compatible with 7 inch figures, and Hasbro might have something good....
Too Much Purple with the Decepticons. (Yes! This again!)
This shit needs to stop, especially given that Hasbro themselves is inconsistent about it. All this kind of thinking does is keep Hasbro from releasing toys that people want in colors that we want.
That said, if I misread the art, that is fine. A proper new mould combiner with no internal recolouring? I have wanted to see that for years.

-weakening resolve.....

Hasbro has a policy (inconsistently enforced) against releasing too many toys with the same colour scheme in a line.
If they were consistent about this, and/or did not half-ass the colours on toys that did come out, it would be less annoying.

I could get right behind new Pretenders. Give the shells some articulation, work out better little dudes to fit inside 'em, do some neat stuff with the designs of the shells, that could be great stuff.
The concept is kind of silly, yeah. "Hey, it's a Decepticon! Oh, wait, it's just a giant green pig with armor. Nevermind". But I'm all for ridiculous concepts that make for cool toys. Let the guys writing the comics worry about why they have 'em, I don't care. I just think they'd be cool.

I was joking. That could be their reasoning but who knows.

Hasbro has used that logic before. Then, they release RotF Sideswipe and Sideways at the same time, complete with similar names. Then, they go back to "cannot have too many toys of the same/similar colour out at once".
I would be happy if they used the IDW explanation for Pretenders, with the shells being extreme haz-mat suits.

-especially if the shells had removeable armour...

That'd be the infamous 'Too Many Tanks' argument, which is allegedly why we didn't get Bludgeon until ROTF, and why Universe Galvatron was made at the Deluxe price point, instead of a Voyager.
I don't think understanding Hasbro is something anyone should attempt for a prolonged period. Whatevs, they've kept the brand going this long and make a majority of things I like, so I'm cool with them.
