The Transformers (IDW, formerly "Robots in Disguise")

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

He showed up in a text story (that counts according to the writers) included in the "Last Stand of the Wreckers" hardcover. He was in bad shape, but there were signs of recovery.

I did some more checking. Fan reaction to this issue is divided, but with most of the compaints being "bawwwww, they killed of my favourite obscure chawuctah".

Those guys have zero right to complain. My favourite two obscure European characters are Clench and Skyquake. They both go out like bitches in their IDW appearances. I didn't complain, because Megatron Origin sucked and if Overlord is badass enough to take out Skyquake...then yeah.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Hey, I don’t blame you, the Aerialbots all blend together for me too (really, if you can identify a given Aerialbot on sight, that’s impressive. I know Silverbolt is the leader, Airraid is the black one, and…uh…).
Apparently Sky-Byte is getting introduced into the story in the next issue, I’m not really sure how I feel about that. I’ll try to stay on the end of cautiously optimistic.
...oh, wow, really? Uh.

Well, let's see how it pans out.
Yeah, it’s like, I like Sky-Byte, and I like this series, but I don’t know if those are two great tastes that would taste great together. Honestly, I’d think Sky-Byte would fit better into MTMTE.

Scratch that, now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense for Sky-Byte to appear in a series called ‘Transformers: Robots in Disguise’. This is only going to add to the hilarious confusion down the line though. “No, we weren’t talking about the Sky-Byte from RiD, we were talking about the one from RiD!”

Wasn’t LSotW entirely based around killing obscure characters? People loved that one.

Kind of funny that with all the Seekers dropping in IDW, that the terminally-endangered Dirge has thus far managed to avoid the axe. And hey, Acid Storm’s still alive too, I think!

Elaborate. I just found out that a Shattered Glass Straxus (colored like Scrounge, geddit?!) is apparently going to be the freebie figure this year, so I’m wondering how far down the shit-hole this one goes.

(Custom Class figure is SG Shockwave or Longarm, depending on which parts you decide to use. Yup, it’s a toy that only a handful of people get the opportunity to own, and they’re making you *choose* which character you want to spend the opportunity to add to your collection. You’re a mean one, Mr. FunPub.)

Yeah! My favorite Seeker gets offed here, and I only complained as a joke! Hell, one of my really obscure favorites, Treadshot, got murdered in a panel in LSotW, and you didn’t hear me complaining then.

It does, but part of me agrees with you, and thinks he'd be better off in MTMTE as well. (This just further brings up that the names really should be on opposite books.)

AND they're making him interesting?!

I do hope that you at least get to keep the unused parts...

Probably because fun pub figures the longarm head & the shockwave head cost money to create or cast in those purple colors.

maybe fun pub doesn't want buyers to take home the longarm or shockwave parts they didn't use. because fun pub thinks people will use the secondary parts they didn't use to create custom kitbashed figures with & then turn around & sell them on ebay.

Personally,i'd pick the shockwave stuff,as it would be a alternators shockwave homage.

I finally figured out why the 2012 custom figure is either longarm or shockwave. because their going by the animated alternate robot modes shockwave had. I must admit this is clever & imaginative.

Oh, man, I hope that's a random Sweep head, and not Scourge. That would kinda suck. (Cyclonus is one of the best parts of MTMTE, I'd hope they'd make his counterpart equally interesting.)

Why, though, am I reading it in Beavis' voice? "ARE YOU THREATENING ME?!"

That's how I read it too!! I had to work to conjure up Peter Spellos' voice to drown out Beavis.

From MTMTE thread:
Dom wrote:
I've got to get caught up on the other series. Starscream as a slimy politician seems like a perfect fit for the character.
Without getting to far in to "Robots in Disguise" in this thread, Starscream may not be as sleazy in that book as you are thinking. Barber might be taking a page from "Reign of Starscream" or the UT in this case.
Is that how you're reading it? Because, and maybe this is just me, I don't trust Starscream 'at all.' He seems suspiciously anxious to prove that he's not going to betray the Autobots...by continually referencing all those other times he betrayed the Autobots. He just feels so smarmy and look-at-me-I'm-so-altrustic about this whole thing. I'm glad IDW is doing a "Decepticon month" or whatever soon so that maybe we can see some 'other' guys involved. Shockwave, for example, has barely shown up, and you'd think he'd want to put in a bid for power, or that the Autobots would take him in as a factor. Prowl and Shockwave would actually probably get along really well.

I've thought this as well. It is after all, logical.
