Pics or it didn't happen, as they say.

Of course, Sorensen is (perhaps intentionally) vague when describing this. A pity, too, given that it's never been referenced anywhere else...and Sorensen has a habit of making crap up.
...Y'know, the early episodes of G1 must've covered a loooong time, since the Decepticons build the Space Bridge almost immediately after the Full crashes. They may as well not have bothered. Once the Space Bridge was fixed to transport Transformers safely, why didn't the Decepticons just flee through it, leaving a time bomb at the other end? Pfft.
It's implied that at least a few months have passed inbetween MTMTE and Transport To Oblivion, at least.

Also, why would they do that? Megatron basically says, the moment he steps out of the Ark in the first episode, "Fuck Cybertron, this world has tons of resources and will also be hella fun to conquer."

You're not kidding. Some model sheets and a guy who didn't work on the original cartoon just *telling* us that it was called the Victory? With no quotes or citations at all? Yyyyeah I'm still calling it Full.

Good question. Ask Megatron. "This world has tons of resources....................BOARD THE SPACE CRUISER!"

Actually, if you go back and watch MTMTE, you'll see Megatron's only concern was collecting enough energy on Earth to return to Cybertron and build "the ultimate weapon". So, no, getting back to Cybertron really was his priority. And he'd basically managed it, by TFTM.

I'm with Gomess, fuck BNFs. I can understand fans being authority figures in their fandom if they have made some sort of officially sanctioned contribution (Willis Recordicons comic in the fan club magazine doesn't do it imo). But fans acting like authority figures is nothing short of obnoxious and boring.
Like it or not, Willis' "Recordicons" is official. Yeah, it is shit. But, it is official shit. You have to count it.
As for the names of the ships, I think in the case of the Decepticon's ship fans are so hungry for some sort of official word on the matter that many of them have just latched onto whatever was avialable. Nemesis was named in BW, but there is still some ambiguity as to whether or not it's the same ship seen in the beginning of G1 MTMTE. In the comic, it was just in orbit for a long time and finally destroyed by Megatron in G2.
Calling it "The Full" is, frankly, the type of thing that too many fans would actually do (looking at Willis and Sipher).

That said, points of information:
-the Nemesis was unambiguously the same ship as the Decepticon cruiser from MTMTE.
-the same ship was destroyed in the UK comics during "Target: 2006", not G2.
Of course, Sorensen is (perhaps intentionally) vague when describing this. A pity, too, given that it's never been referenced anywhere else...and Sorensen has a habit of making crap up.
.
It is really kind of sad that this is again becoming a problem. For a bit, maybe about 10 years back, it looked like the fandom was on its way to sorting out what was official and what was fanfic. But, now, between self-indulgent fans and self-indulgent twerps like Sorenson, we are sliding backwards. This is especially bad news for cheap-ass fans like Sparky and myself who would do better to avoid buying expensive source books.

Not really. I mean, there's asteroids there, but it's more implied that they just kind of run into it because they're being attacked by Decepticons.
They Decepticons weren't attacking them yet. They'd both just launched from Cybertron when two giant asteroids collided in front of the Ark, catching both ships in a meteor shower. It wasn't until after they cleared the asteroids that Prowl confirmed they were being followed, and then the Decepticons attacked.

You would think that the Autobots would have seen the asteroids and avoided them in the first place. Oi, that cartoon was terrible.

Has anyone considered that one of the reasons that we are all so spotty about remembering exactly what happened on the cartoon is that it was so badly edited and put together?

I'm pretty sure it's because most of us probably haven't felt the need to watch MTMTE recently... But nah, I wouldn't say editing was the old cartoon's biggest problem. It was the checking that needed tightening up, but that's true of any western 80s cartoon, from Transformers to Turtles. I forget the amount of times that Leonardo spoke with Donatello's voice.

Good job Floro Dery came along and saved us all from THAT! >_>

It seems very evident that MTMTE was originally written as a standalone story. Megatron is trying to steal all the energy he can and return to Cybertron, not remain on Earth to conquer it, as you point out. Prime and the Autobots are also preparing to leave and return home at the end of the story, and take Spike and Sparkplug with them. "Next stop, Cybertron" Spike writes in his journal. But then we hit episode four, and the Autobots are still on Earth, still running patrols (Why?) and act as though they never planned to leave. With no explanation. Prime seems shocked to see Megatron alive later on. "Megatron lives!" Well, if you didn't suspect it, why did you stay on Earth and why was over half your force out on patrol?

There simply isn't a smooth transition from episode 3 to episode 4.

I bought season 1 a number of months ago after having not seen most of those episodes since the 80s. And I was surprised by just how well I remembered most of them once they got going, down to dialogue and plot. I had forgotten them until I watched them, but clearly those old episodes made an impression at the time.

And yeah, sometimes the writing was good, but sometimes it really was pretty bad. But it provided me some much-enjoyed entertainment back in the day.

The last maybe 10 minutes of MtmtE would be great if not for the terrible animation. They play out really well.

When I was a kid, it took me years to realize that I had not missed an episode between the third and fourth.
