Y'know, I'd almost be willing to support this just as an avenue to keep Furman the hell out of the TF books I actually like. Don't get me wrong, the G1 comics (and particularly Furman's G1 comics) are likely my favorite splinter of original G1 fiction, but is continuing those stories nearly thirty years later really something that can be considered a good idea?
It's like Hollywood's annoying trend of making sequels to films that came out decades ago. I'm telling you, as soon as Back to the Future Part IV comes out, I'm done.

It sounds to me like the same old mainstays ("core cast") in a big epic fight on Earth.
An event driven story with a limited cast....written by Furman. Oh yeah, there is no reason to expect this to suck completely. Still, Prowl has a point about this keeping Furman away from the main book.

The main PROBLEM I have with Furman doing issue #81 Continuation is as follows:
Simon furman has stated in various & recent on-line Q & A interviews. He wants to make believe or omit certain marvel TF comics events/stories. like Generation 2 being ommitted & never existing. in a recent interview Simon furman has stated he'd make believe & Omit certain Generation one comic events/stories on the last few issues. in order for his issue #81 to make more sense. also so he can do better future arcs/plots.
I'm sorry ommitting stuff isn't a continuation. IT'S IN THE REALM OF A "WHAT IF" series. or disrupting the time line by alterting it & make the thing go into a "alternate/parallel" universe. like the last star trek movie did.
I liked the way The generation one comic ended. I loved the G.I joe marvel comics issues #138-142 that featured the contuining story of marvels #80 TF generation one comics. I enjoyed the story that the Marvel Generation 2 TF comic had.
Personally I'd only support & buy a Marvel comics issue #13 of the Generation 2 comic. because I want to see the decepticons break the peace treaty in the G-2 comics. I want too see the HUB & the Leige maximo further explored. love to see those newer G-2 transformers get their personalities all fleshed out.
I see no reason to go the issue #81 route. as the G.I joe marvel comic & G-2 comic has already continued the events that issue #80 left off.
I didn't enjoy seeing the G-1 action masters, headmasters, targetmasters & so forth lose all their gimmicks with zero explanation in the G-2 comic. I honestly fear what simon will do with issue #81 if given the chance.

Presumably not the same thing that happened in G2...? I mean, he *already* did something with #81. Now he's just doing it a different way. Has he actually specifically said he won't be involving G2 characters?
I'm not really fussed about this, because everything TF Furman's worked on since the turn of the 90s has been a vanity project. =/

The interview I linked above says he'd be using some elements from G2, but apparently not the whole of it, maybe. It's not a go yet, but yeah.

Except Maximum Dinobots! Go read that, man. It's the best thing he's done since G2. And yes, I know, that title sounds really bad--but it's not all about them. I mean, yeah, they're the starring characters, but Grimlock is Not Shitty in it! It's pretty cool.

Hey--if nothing else, he can't use Unicron!

The Swarm, then. =/ Oh well, it's not like I was gonna read the thing; if I want recent TF books I have to order them online, and that's no fun.

That is the kind of title one would expect to see in the kids' section of fanfiction.net. But wait, if it's not all about them, who IS it about? Is it long? 'Cos like I said, I'm not in the business of buying a mass of comics online.

I bloody well hope not. If he gets Unicron AND the Swarm in there........... Face it, guys. Transformers is ruined forever.

There's always piracy!

It's also about Sunstreaker (and the fallout from him becoming a Headmaster), Scorponok, the Monsterbots, and Hot Rod. Grimlock's not written like crap in it, either! And Shockwave and Soundwave show up to follow up on some plot threads from before and then they're sort of never brought up again after that. (Sounds was in AHM, and Shockwave had that bit in Wreckers, but other than that...)
It's really, really good though. And it's only five issues!

Hummm it doesn't sound very self-contained... But if I can find it for a reasonable (i.e. free) price, I may give it a go. I might just not be a "comic book person" anymore. =[
...Seriously, I hope Furman combines the Swarm and Unicron to form Swarmicron. And then he finds the Decepticon Matrix and goes black and evil and feeds on Dark Energon so we have to call him Dark Swarmicron.
