Dark of the Moon Teaser now online

Money, violence, sex, computer graphics, scatalogical humor, racism, robots designed to be rednecks but given European accents, and maybe another sequel to the saga... what's not to love? TF m1, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon and now Age of Extinction.

FINALLY just saw it. I like the shot of Hot Rod at the end. At least I'm assuming that's him. Kinda sorta looks Hot Rodish. Esque.

Just out of interest, has everyone here seen the first two movies? I've only seen bits of them, and that was enough to put me off. I probably won't even bother watching bits of this, unless I hear something spectacular. A friend of mine who grew up on G1 just like I did LOVES the movies- I think it might even be their favourite TFverse- and went to see the first one without watching a single trailer, solely on the fact it's Transformers. I guess that's just not enough for me. Maybe I *am* a toyhack. =p

I've seen both. The one good thing about them is that the do capture the one element you've said is important to you in your TF fiction which is the concept of robots IN DISGUISE! Now, what I usually tell people about them is that while I find them entertaining, as a fan of the hobby for the last 25 years, I wish they would have gone some different directions with it.

I can't believe they called it REVENGE of the Fallen (which works on almost NO levels- is it even revenge??) rather than RISE of the Fallen (which works on two).

The movies are...okay.

The first one was actually pretty good. I mean, it's got its flaws, sure, but it's still an enjoyable ride and there's very few holes anywhere in it. ROTF is a different thing altogether.

You do have to get used to the designs--one thing I dislike about the Movieverse in general is that, for a little bit there, it kind of looked like it was "infecting" other TF interpretations. Like Don Fig's crappy new art style...in G1 comics.

But this third one looks alright. It's probably going to fix the flaws of ROTF, people were *pissed* about that.

O hey, you stopped using speech marks to indicate emphasis. I was gonna say something.

And yeah, I'm afraid I'm in the Movie Aesthetic Sucks camp. I find it to be a huge step backwards, with the Decepticons being little more than chattering pointy insects. Bleh. It goes well with Bay's directing style, with plenty of opportunity for clunking metal and flashy slowmo closeups, but that ain't my bag, baybee.

Maybe the TF movies'll get the Spidey and Hulk treatments, with a reboot barely three years down the line, with Bay staying on as Producer / Story Editor, and giving some talented a chance to direct. Could happen!!

No I didn't. Asterisks mark *bold*, semiquotes marks 'italics'. It's always been that way. I still do them. It depends on which I'm trying to get across.

Of course, it's stupid to do that when I sometimes go to the trouble of bolding or italicizing but it's a matter of how lazy I feel on that particular day. And, of course, I can't do that over IM so I always do it that way there. Or in text messages! Or on Twitter!

Bay said he's done after this one. I dunno if we'll actually see a redesign, though--these designs have become almost ingrained in the public now. It's strange.

Also my father's seen ROTF like eighty times now because HBO keeps fucking showing it what the hell man.

Nope, he just didn't like looking at or talking about anything at all to do with war, especially if it was casually racist in the way franchises like Joe were (are?).
I do not know that I would say "GI Joe" was racist. Cobra was mostly white. And, the stereotypical Joes were pretty broadly distributed across several groups.
I'll admit it's not the most engaging movie ever, but the simple fact that the US and Japan cooperated on a movie about Pearl Harbor so soon... well, dang.

Japan knows that it has to engage commercially as it was militarily castrated.

Do not sell GW short. They have credible writers and marketable IP.

Just out of interest, has everyone here seen the first two movies?
They are shit. Look at the second scene of the film, from when the USAF Osprey is landing at the base to when Blackout attacks. Try to figure out the time frame. Thanks to Bay's inept editing and cutting, it is anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours.

I like the look of the movies well enough though.

Why would the movies get a reboot. "Hulk" was a commercial failure. And, the "Spiderman" movies are getting rebooted because the cast is getting too old and nobody wants to do a good linear story and let Spidey age.

See, even a Joe fans admits it was full of stereotyping. And being humans, it was more prevalent than that in TF. That said, what my granddad mostly saw would've been the backup strips in my TF comics, which HEAVILY focuses on Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes. I'm sure he wouldn't have had a problem with Flint or Hawk or Lady Jaye or whoever, besides the simple fact they're soldiers.

Dude, what part of my reaction indicated I know who GW are? =p

Well, one can never predict the reason for a reboot. I'll let Shattered Glass Dom field this one:

...See? There are lots of reasons. Maybe some some C-Grade director who's a closet TF fan will decide Bay's 'humour' totally undermined his movies, and decide to do it 'right'. We can't predict it. But there's a BIG chance they'll be rebooted or remade soon, because with a couple notable exceptions that's all the mainstream American movie business DOES anymore. [/only the slightest exaggeration]

But it was equal and across the board. Wild Bill was a Texan. CrossCountry was a redneck. Shipwreck was a bit of a pig, and a sailor. Hama wrote BBQ to be as close to the drunken Irish stereotype, (which I am sure your grandfather might have approved of on some level), as he could get away with. Spirit was a cartoon Indian. Quick-kick was a good mix of progressive and stereotypical. (Racism actually factored into his back-story.)

For the record, there are people who will *tell* you that Hama did serious research on ninjas and the stuff with Storm Shadow and SnakeEyes was totally realistic and a completely true to life portrayal of ninjas. (I really wish I was making this up or simply being sarcastic.)

The part where you said "Games Workshop". )*(

Keeping Sam artificially young is not as important to TF as keeping Peter young is to "Spiderman". Of course, if Bay does leave, they might as wall reboot, if only to make the (likely lower) ticket sales easier to justify.
