I'd rather not. =/ What amazes me most about their sudden growth spurt is the fact that it was just in time for them to be in the same game as.... Raiden. A super heavyweight grappler. What self-respecting fighting game designer makes ALL their grapplers super heavyweights?! The cool thing about Clark, particularly, was that he was a throw-based character who was still relatively light on his feet. His Frankensteiner looks ridiculous with his new body. And don't get me started on Leona (my favourite character); it's bad enough they make the guys so much bigger, but they actively SHRANK her. Ugh.

...Have you not seen any of XIII? Yuri's hair is exactly the same, just without the plait. Almost as if they literally just erased that part of her sprite in MS Paint.

Hah. I can really rant about 2D fighters. Currently on a Samurai Shodown / Spirits kick, anyone ever play that?

Does Samurai Shodown have Gen-An (I think. Crazy hunchback with a bladed glove weapon)? Because if so, yeah, played the arcade version of that thing fairly regularly years ago. Good times.

YES Genan was one of my mains!! I'm intending to cosplay him someday too, 'cos I'm a bit of an agile freak myself.

And..... oh heck, fine, I just want to paint myself green and wear a scary glove.

Hey, nothin' wrong with that. Makeup and a scary glove worked well enough for Robert Englund. But yeah, Genan was friggin' awesome. That move he'd have where he'd jump over a fallen opponent, land with his glove in their chest and spin? I loved the hell out of that move.

Honestly, don't recall anyone else from that game so much. Was there like, a girl that had a high-tech Joan of Arc thing going on? And a guy with a dog...? Oh wait, friggin' Earthquake, right? I remember that guy, too. The giant that had a fart-in-your-face attack?

Another fun one from that same era? World Heroes, or maybe it was World Heroes 2. Either way, one of 'em had a guy that was basically Rasputing, but with hands and feet that could grow to enormous size for various attacks.

I was absolutely nuts for that kind of game back then. Absolutely nuts.

I've been off and on the Japanese website, and someone posted some of her sprites a while back, showing that the braid was missing (is a 'Plait' a braid? I don't speak British).

Oh fuck, and here I though Gomess and I were the only ones who had heard of World Heroes. Scourge, that guy wasn't 'basically Rasputin', he *was* Rasputin; the entire point of the game was that famous fighters from history/myth had been brought together to duke it out. This led to the odd situation of a character based on Judo master Ryoko Tamura showing up in World Heroes 2 at the same time as another character based on her (also named Ryoko) appeared in Data East's Fighter's History. I mained Ryoko in FH, but actually mostly played Rasputin in WH2.

SNK actually got the rights to World Heroes a while back, and Hanzo, Fuuma, Mudman, and boss Neo Dio all showed up in the otherwise mediocre Neo Geo Battle Coliseum. I'd heard they had the rights to Fighter's History as well, so I keep waiting for characters from those games to turn up in King of Fighters sometime. I want both Ryokos to be in there. :P

I think her name was Janne in World Heroes. The girl in silver armor with a sword. I would always use her. She played a lot like Chun Li with her stabbing downward move that worked justl ike Chun Li's stomp and she could bounce off walls too. Pretty sure she was supposed to represent Joan of Arc.

Yeah, but Scourge was referring to Charlotte, from Samurai Spirits. Nothing hi-tech about Charlotte, but I guess she has a pretty big suit of armour. "Don't talk about my plate again!"

...Actually, Jeanne was rather hi-tech. She had a whipsword yeeeaaars before that lass called... Evy? Ivor? Ovy? *shrug*

With Daimon! JUDO TEAMMMM And yes, a plait is a braid! Braids are very thin plaits, over here. I dunno who's "right" though. =[

Oh, and Scourge, Earthquake was also a ninja. From Texas. Taught by a runaway lady ninja. I'm *still* nuts for those kindsa games. =p

Aaaaand now thanks to this conversation I just ordered myself a copy of King of Fighters XI off of eBay for $9, shipped. We had a copy when I was living at home, but my brother got it when I moved out. Been missing it.

Just beat Zelda: Phantom Hourglass last night. Fun little game, but aside from some tricky puzzles, there's almost zero challenge here. Still, good for a little fun, though I think I need to try something different before tackling the sequel, Spirit Tracks.

Up next. . . maybe Viewtiful Joe 2?
