The Spoileriffic Movie Discussion Thread

Money, violence, sex, computer graphics, scatalogical humor, racism, robots designed to be rednecks but given European accents, and maybe another sequel to the saga... what's not to love? TF m1, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon and now Age of Extinction.

This isn't that same point. The Autobots aren't actively seeking out all the Decepticons in the universe to wipe them all out. They're just fighting the few that have come to Earth.

The Autobots didn't offer the Decepticons any chance to negotiate or leave the planet, they simply attacked them as soon as they were detected. It wasn't "The Decepticons are attacking the city!", it was "There are Decepticons over there, we'd better kill them."
My favourite bit is actually the comic adaptation. Demmy's all defeated-like, and Prime stands over him and goes "I wish there was another way!" as he blasts him in the face.

Thing is, all we get for the beginning (which got me right off on the wrong foot) was Prime's voice-over filling us in on what's been happening. Telling us what's going on is bad form, movie. Show us! It would have been way cooler if, say, we'd seen Big-Ass Wheel guy and evil Sideswipe doing some truly nefarious stuff, someone sees this and records it (like what happened), alarms go off in NEST (that stands for what, again?) headquarters, the Autobots and humans head out to stop said nefariousness, and THEN Prime puts a bullet in Bigass Wheel Guy's head. (I've decided Bigass Wheel Guy is just a better name. ANYONE can be Demolishor.)

Double-dog dare anyone to tell me I'm wrong and prove it. Yes, yes, I know, it costs a LOT to animate these CGI models, but for me, I'd take lesser effects for better story any day of the week.

At the beginning of the movie, the Decepticons were still carrying out their missions by use of subterfuge. Actively doing nefarious stuff would call unwanted attention to them, and they were already getting enough of that from NEST. Not to mention later on in the film when Megatron declares "No more hiding" and they literally announce themselves to the world, it wouldn't have had as big of an impact if the Decepticons had already been actively revealing themselves to the mass public.

Besides, they did show us what they'd been doing. They detect a Decepticon(s) in an area and then send in a NEST team to take them out.

Gah.

Yeah, but dang. The voice-over at the beginning was really weak this time anyway.

And as much ROTF-bashing as I do, guess what I'm going to see tonight?

Ah, well, everything's better at the Drive-In theater.

Oh, so I guess I should throw my hat in here. I saw it Wednesday, haven't been able to really post here until now though and I now I have nothing to say. Basically, I was totally prepared for it to appall me, based on what I had heard from others, but in the end I was pretty satisfied with it. Of course, that's probably because the first time around all you notice are the explosions and robuts and boosh pow chchchchch spkew spkew spkew ffffffPOOOOOM but I'm sure that just like the first movie, everytime i watch it I'll notice more things I hate. The day after seeing it I found I still had a ton of questions about what the hell had happened, but whatever. I honestly can't decide whether it was better or worse than the first.

My contribution to the WTF list:
Decepticons hatch out of eggs?

Well, presumably Transformers in general. It's really vague and unexplained. Pity, that!

My point is that the Autobots come across as really nasty in ROTF, no matter how rational their goal. Prime screaming, "give me your face", is another example.

Well, definitely more nasty than we're used to the Defenders of Freedom And Goodness and all that that we're used to from the Autobots, definitely. Prime strikes me more as being like I imagine Big Convoy being than anything else.

I saw it again, just to see if (like the first movie), I would like it less. (Morbid curiosity.) Despite my already low opinion of them movie, I still managed to like it less. (Bad Bay edits in terms of time compression just irk me more and more.)

On another note, did anyone else catch the Skywarp (and presumably the other F15s and F22s) cameo? During the final battle, while the Fallen is on the pyramid, and Prime-Fire is flying in, there is a group of F22s flying over. One of them is black and has Decepticon sigils on it. Prime flies in, and kills one, before attacking the Fallen.
