I wasn't being sarcastic. Seriously. Like every other geek has experienced this and I have long dreamed of living in a world where that doesn't happen. You seem to live there. Your grass is pretty green from this side of the fence.

Yeah, no.... I still got picked on in school for being a fan of Star Trek, and the like.

So did I but, how does that have any affect on what you experience now?

Anyway... then there's shit like this:

And I was just browsing to see what my Trek shit was worth.

Yes. How often do we have discussions about Hasbro putting out endless Bumblebees to please dumbass parents who buy the line for their kids and only know the names "Bumblebee," "Optimus Prime" and "Megatron?" Fuck, you could write an entire 'dissertation' on how Michael Bay is ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE because he literally has no idea what the fuck any of the Transformers are named. I'm dead serious here. He has literally said, "I don't know what Hasbro calls most of these guys so I just make up my own names." Guys like the Wreckers being credited as "Leadfoot/Target" in DOTM and Demolishor being named "Wheelbot" in the DOTM credits is just a fundamental fucking lack of knowledge or 'caring' about what those guys are called.

And you know what? That's the way it is. Fuck it, I even do this with 'other nerd shit' that I don't care about. Ask me about Doctor Who, right now, which I have a miscellaneous understanding of and have never seen a single episode of. I think Daleks are robots for fuck's sake. If you lined up three or four of the Doctors in a row, I'd go, "Oh, hey, Movie Destro and some guys I see on Tumblr sometimes."

Ask me to name a Green Lantern who wasn't, at one point, 'the' Green Lantern. I know Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and John Stewart aka Black Green Lantern. That's more than most people can name, but on top of that I can't name a 'single one' outside of those four besides Sinestro. Okay, that's a lie, I know Kilowog's name, because Kilowog is awesome. I don't know the name of the bird guy though. I also have no idea if females can be Green Lanterns. Presumably I guess they can be because of Star Sapphire, maybe? I don't even know who Star Sapphire is, I think she's a Pink Lantern? Is that even a thing?

Yeah, maybe that's ignorance of the property. Perhaps even willful. (I really could not give any more shits about Green Lantern than I already to. To me, Green Lantern is the black guy from Justice League and that's where my interest ends.) But you know what? The majority of the populace is like that. People don't give a shit about nerd shit. They just don't. I don't even give a shit about nerd shit. I can count the episodes of Star Trek I've actually seen the whole way through on one hand. (Hint: It's zero.) That's just the way it goes. People are ignorant to things they don't really care about.

My father didn't know what the Avengers were. Like, he had no idea. At the end of Iron Man when Samuel L. Fury comes out, I was all excited and my father was just, like, what? I had to explain:

"That's Nick Fury. He runs the Avengers."
"Who the fuck are the Avengers?"
"The Avengers is all the Marvel guys."
"All the Marvel guys?"
"Yes, pretty much all the Marvel guys."
"So, like, Spiderman is in it?"
"Well, sometimes in the comics, but not always, and he's owned by a different movie company, so not really."
"So no Spiderman?"
"Not in the movie."
"What about the X-Men?"
"I dunno, I think Wolverine was in the Avengers for a while. He might still be."
"So he'll be in it?"
"No, because X-Men is also owned by a different movie company."
"Oh. Well, what about, like, Ghost Rider?"
"Ghost Rider isn't in it either. Neither is Daredevil."
"Who's Daredevil?"
"You remember Daredevil! Ben Affleck was in it. The blind guy."
"Oh yeah. He was Marvel?"
"Yes he was Marvel. You own the fucking DVD!"
"Oh yeah. I do. Hey, wasn't Blade Marvel? You told me that once."
"Damn it, Dad."

I was waiting for you to post this sort of thing. From what I've heard, your dad is one of the best examples of the sort of thing we've been trying to explain to Sparky.

Ask your dad if women can be Sith. Post results.

And again, that's talking about comic book characters which I already AGREED is similar enough for your average moviegoer to easily confuse.

Seriously, who is even reading the words on the screen?

Comic book characters, sci-fi movie characters...

I bet you a billion people are going to continuously confuse Battleship for Transformers this Summer. This is the society we're living in. Well the rest of us anyway, you apparently live in some wild place where reading Star Wars novels is a regular occurance for the average person.

What the fuck are we even arguing about anymore?

No, seriously, I've lost track, somehow we got to talking about how my father doesn't know who the Avengers are.

Oh yeah! I remember now!

Fuck you, Prowl, Empire is awesome.

(For the record: I am seeing Battleship, I don't even care. It looks hilariously awful and awesome at the same time. LIAM NEESON. Fuck yeah.)

Holy crap yeah, let's just talk about Battleship. It's on-topic for this thread.

I wanna see it for pretty much the same reasons as O6. I will drag my friends to it and we will laugh our asses off at it the same way we did at Ghost Rider.

Is there going to be a toyline for it? Could be cool.
