The only thing worse than this shit was Peter giving Mary Jane Spider-cancer.
I can agree that it was a stupid idea. But, I cannot, I refuse to, simply "let it go". I must write and complain about it, in a florid and grim manner. Simply ignoring this story is not an option. It is part of continuity and context. I will not, cannot, ignore part of the character's history, no matter how bad it was.

If we start ignoring 90s Marvel, where and when do we draw the line? I am not willing to make that decision. And, any man who is willing to make it is not one I would trust with such an important question.

Deciding where to draw the line in ignoring a comic book continuity is an important decision?

I'm not saying it didn't happen and we should forget it happened, but we also don't need to be talking about it. It's over! It's not current! Who cares!

Alright I'm exaggerating now, I really don't care either way, but.

Since we're talking about Spider-Man events that aren't current, I found this wonderful blog detailing the Clone Saga of the mid-90s, and a lot of the backstage editor stuff--including insight on how little-planned the whole endeavour really was.

Funfact: One possible scenario to end the whole thing was to have Mephisto show up and send Peter Parker back in time, and he would get amnesia and become Ben Reily. The reason this was rejected? "Mephisto isn't really a Spider-Man kind of villain."

It's a fairly recent story at least, having been out just a few years ago and still a sore topic for many fans.

Actually, Marvel is doing something with the Clone Saga currently.

You're joking.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse.

Nope. The first issue of the miniseries "Spider-Man: Clone Saga" just came out today actually. And Amazing Spider-Man will be doing a "Who is Ben Reilly?" story starting in October.

The new "Clone Saga" is actually pretty good. DeFalco wrote an intro that opens by asking if the readers ever had an off day, and goes on to talk about how bad the 90s "Clone Saga" was.

That alone sells me on this title.

Gah, I suspected they were up to something like this after that whole "Scarlet Spiders" thing.

Fun Fact: I'm actually rather fond of Ben Reilly and the Scarlet Spider. I might check this new thing out, actually.
