I found the quote, and he says it's because he senses fear in her and that a Sith should have no fear.

I actually have a Star Wars book. I think. It might just be a preview or something. It came with a Nintendo magazine. It's about some guy called Dash Rendar Who is Totally Not Han Solo.

Dash Rendar was the surrogate hero of Shadows of the Empire, which was a mid-90s SW franchise-wide thing. Shadows of the Empire was an "interquel" that was supposed to take place between ESB and ROTJ. The idea was that they would do all of the typical tie-in shit that would normally come if there was an actual Star Wars movie--video games, toyline, novels, comics, the whole shebang--without actually 'making the movie.' (At one point during it, Lucas actually did express some interest in filming it, but the actors were all too old by '96 to feasibly fit in a movie that takes place when it does.)

Rendar is a Han Solo ripoff primarily because Han Solo is frozen in carbonite during the time Shadows of the Empire takes place. The in-story reason he's so similar is he's a Corellian like Han.

Seeing the number of Star Wars novels they put out over the years, they must sell pretty well for book publishers to keep putting them out like that.


I remember playing the Shadows the the Empire video game years ago. I really liked the look of Dash Rendar's ship, the Outrider, which itself is a Millennium Falcon rip off. I notice a ship of the same design is in the Star Wars: Old Republic commercials.

Surely you're not suggesting the novels are anywhere near the films in terms of popularity. I mean, I'm no Star Wars fan, but yikes.

That and there's also the problem that the books/comics/video games, etc... aren't canon anymore.

Maybe not quite as popular as the films, but yeah, they are very popular books none-the-less. You ever see the Sci-Fi section in a book store? There are usually a couple cases full of just Star Wars books.

No, but... I'm talking about the popular consciousness' view of Star Wars. As far as most people ever are concerned, women do not become Jedi or Sith.

That's just a general criticism of the movies, though. The wider media is barely a blip on the radar. And when have you ever known me to make a fuss about gender roles?!

What do you mean as far as most people are concerned? The movies, cartoons, video games, books, comics, toys and what ever else is out there all shows men and women as Jedi or Sith. The popular consciousness should reflect that.

I dunno about that. I've been seeing the Old Republic video game commercials quite frequently lately. The Clone Wars cartoon seems to be popular. And like I said, the books almost have their own section in book stores I've been to.
