I've got an intention of buying all the Heisei-era Godzilla films. Gotta get to it. For some reason, they seem like they're the Godzilla films I "remember," even though there's no possible way I could have seen most of them since they weren't really released here in the 90s. I think it's because all the Godzilla-related merchandise that hit in the 90s was based on those films, so the designs feel way more "Godzilla" to me than anything else. (One day I'll also own those neat $20 Godzilla and Mechagodzilla toys they always have at TRU...)

I was neither around for the original promotion, nor was I ever into GI Joe enough as a kid that it would have mattered, but now there is something appealing about being able to own a toy that’s a representation of every kid’s overpowered fan-character. The bio (which actually has a Name field that’s just left blank, a nice touch)kinda goes the other way with this, describing the Steel Brigade as Joe’s entry-level foot soldiers. Which I think is kinda messed up, that the team takes all these ten-year-olds with starry-eyed dreams of joining GI Joe and shoves them out to act as cannon fodder. I like this guy in that respect though, since the Joes need more generics. If I was into the sort of thing, I might even troop build this one, since it’s a nice toy anyway, giving you lots of options as far as weapons and even a couple of backpacks to choose from, a nice nod to the nature of the character. I didn’t even notice right away that he has these really nice up-and-down wrist swivels, don’t think I’ve encountered that on a Joe yet. Those missiles on his backpack would be lost in an instant if a kid got their hands on this, and I don’t even fully trust myself to keep track of them.
Which version did you grab? There's two. The one on the right is the original release, the one on the left is the variant.

I think both of them have the swivel wrists though, but if not then you definitely have the new variant--he's based off the recent Ultimate Snake Eyes mould, which they also used for the new Stalker.
Also, the GI Joe Club had a Steel Brigade set a while back, and their kind-of-wanky way of incorporating the Steel Brigade was to make them entirely seperate from GI Joe--they're a UN private security force that works with various military organizations across the world (including GI Joe and, presumably, Action Force and like, the Argentina guys, I guess) which allows them to be those kind of high-ranking godmod characters while simultaneously taking them directly out of the GI Joe power structure so they don't make a mess of things. It's 'almost' like they were Flint and Lady Jaye's roles in Renegades, except traditional GI Joe aren't dudes on the run, so.
Anyway, while it is a nice toy, my Steel Brigade guy is currently not as cool as most other people’s, since I don’t have a classic version that I invented back in the day for this to serve as an upgrade of. Mine’s just a blank slate, he doesn’t even have a name! I need to come up with this guy’s story, and it needs to be a good one.
There were a few "named" Steel Brigade dudes in the past, mostly from an online exclusive set from 2006--Rook, Checkpoint, and Redzone.

Not all of them though, just a good many. Some of the Renegades guys actually still reuse parts from figures going the whole way back to Resolute, so.
-likes the "10 year olds with dreams as cannon fodder" idea....
It's a funny idea...

Picked up RTS Perceptor, because while he might not be all that great, I'm sure he's worth seven bucks. And a Solar Storm Grappel for ten bucks? Again, might as well. It felt a little excessive, picking up both of those at once, but at those prices, why not, right? Right.
Totally worth it. Perceptor is cool, I don't know what everyone's bitching about. Give him Blurr's rifle, it looks awesome.
