I saw in your review that the instructions left you as baffled by the pointlessness of that gimmick as it did me, and it's WOEFULLY unobvious that the head can snap DOWN using the same system, so I figured folks like us would want to hear about that gimmick more than being left with a stupid "head nods slightly" thing from the instructions.

US Grimlock compares visually more to the original Japanese one than the colorful King version, but turns the silvery gray plastic into a flatter, darker gray plastic, and adds silver paint to the thighs - also, the toes and panels holding the shoulders are chromed overseas and painted gold here. IMO, there's nothing the Japanese version comes with that is worth a damn that we don't have.

The puppet tail gimmick is actually pretty fun, and the neck ratchets so you aren't locked into a specific rotation, and the majority of the tail doesn't move that much anyway, and the last quarter of the tail moves much more and independently of the neck puppet gimmick.

I know that I'm in a minority here, but I'd trade the crown for the apron and serving tray any day of the week. I like the crown, and I do like how it's a visual callback to Grimlock being in charge back in the Marvel G1, but I'd have more fun, I think, with the latter two accessories.

Of course, my girlfriend's really good at knitting and sewing, maybe I can sweet-talk her into making me a damn apron for Grimlock. Or a tiny Doctor Who scarf...

I cast an eye over MP Grimlock while browsing in Toys R Us today. It seems reasonably large, though I don't think it's worth $70. Unicron and Primus only cost me $50 each, for a much larger figure. And I do have to say that I'm disappointed that the designers went with the cartoon model for the dinosaur mode. I prefer the shape of the original toy's head, along with the dino posture, even if it is inaccurate. Neither of these nitpicks will stop me from getting the figure at some point, but I didn't like the way the dino looked as much as I thought I might.

For me, I really like the cartoon alt mode they came up with for MP Grims, it is what I was looking for.

See, that looked really good. I agree. I just don't really like the cartoon dino mode as much as the toy dino mode.
