Drift-Chan

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

Sorry, I'm not really up on my Real People Involved In Transformers post-2000, so who's that...?

Well, whether he's an established writer who merely respects the TF concept, or a raving fanboy whose favourite character is his own half-vampire Soundwave recolour with an eyepatch, either way I think my point still stands. Here's to more NEW characters.
COME TO TFVIEWS oh you already did

He wrote All Hail Megatron. It's ok, it took Dom telling me that like 20 times for me to remember it. I don't really pay attention to who's writing stuff either.

I'm assuming then that you'll be skipping the upcoming Drift mini-series, since it's only telling us what we already know.
It was not as bad as the Cliffjumper special, (a case study in why writers should not simply be allowed to write their favorite characters), but it was not especially good.
Yeah, Cliffjumper wasn't all that good. I'll agree with you there.

Is it though? For all we know, this could be where he gets Mary Sued.

As far as I can remember, AHM doesn't discuss who Drift was when he was a Decepticon or what he did. AHM doesn't mention the third faction, and doesn't go into any detail about Perceptor's injury that turned him into a sniper. There's plenty of information in Spotlight Drift that we only learn in that story, or learn for the first time. And it's a decent story in its own right. The idea that we learn nothing new by reading it just doesn't hold water.

The Drift "Spotlight" was not horrible. But, I can see people writing it off as filler because we really do not see much new happen so much as we see how stuff we reasonably figured happened did, in fact, happen.

-Drift's drifting.
-something happened to Perceptor.

Given the high bar set by earlier "Spotlights", I do not think it is unreasonable to expect a bit more.

Dom
-will be buying the Miniseries.

Yeah, he totally is. I like this toy a lot now that I've had time to fiddle a little bit.. I'm gonna have to ask for pics of the sword-pointery, though, cause damned if I can figure it out.

As for the rest of this fella...

Car!: Not much to say about it. Racy "drift" car, but I'm pretty sure the cars in that "Fast and the Furious" movie didn't look as cool as this. He is a neat-looking ride, I'm okay with the decor, it adds a little something and isn't horribly obnoxious.

Transformation!: After the movie line, I'm about ready for figures that you can flip back and forth fairly easily. Good show on this one, Drift-Chan. It's a different enough transformation to be fun, as well. The legs in particular are pretty neat.

Robot!: I like it pretty well. Looks really neat, fairly posable, but I'm not nuts about the shoulders, It's hard to move the arms around without dragging the shoulders out of place, which is a minor annoyance, but it's there. And the sheathes, I not sure about them. The weapon storage is good, and they don't look bad at all, but they feel like they're limiting the arm articulation. Still, beyond those minor issues, fun figure. I dig how many weapons dude has going for him, the big sword's the big draw but I do dig the smaller ones, too. Pretty much has what I want in a Transformer, so I'm happy with this one.

Now, will I buy Blurr? I don't know. I'm intrigued by the new weapons, and I do like the mold and the character, buuut I've already got the Animated Blurr, which, to my eyes, is about a perfect incarnation of that guy. So I don't know, depends on my finances and such when he comes out. But maybe.

Time for my two cents on Drift:

Auto mode: any white car always seems a little bland to me, so I appreciate the panel lines and red deco to liven it up a bit. And I appreciate the translucent blue plastic windows. I always prefer clear to painted over.

Transformation: as Scourge says, a lot simpler than some of the movie figures, and a lot more enjoyable to me. The leg 'flip' is interesting and probably more stable in the long term than extenders would be, and the bulk of the weight ends up on the lower legs and feet, helping keep the figure stable.

Robot mode: not a lot of clearance between the doors where the swords store and the arms, but there's plenty of articulation to keep things clear. I love the sword storage for the two little swords. I don't really want to clip the larger one in since it's rubbery and liable to warp. All sorts of nice action poses are possible with this guy. I do wonder why he has a firepower rating of 5 when he carries no guns.

Overall: my first Transformer purchase in months, not counting Tuner Mudflap (and what a waste of money that figure was...). Drift is an excellent figure with two good modes and a good transformation. Definitely recommended.

I did a partial review... somewhere else (ok, maybe JT's right about the forums  ) so here's the full version.

Automobili Autoboti! Personally, I think the detailing with the red streaks on that color of white kind of remind me of Kratos from God of War. I like it. It resembles most sedan type cars on the road today and that's always something I've liked in a TF. Plus, everything locks together properly which means that he actually rolls on his wheels.

Transformation. I like the transformation. It's different from the standard Autobot car hood = robot chest with door wings which I like. Course I'm also a sucker for the car chest/door wings design too so I guess that's not saying much. Point is it's different, but in a good way. It's also complex, but not so much to the point of being unintuitive.

Bot of War! Ok, between the two short thick blades, the white ghostly color and the red streaky details, this thing reminds me of a robot version of Kratos. Especially with the short swords. Luckily, he's also poseable enough in this mode to pull off most of Kratos' signature poses. The toy comes packaged with the large sword as an accessory and when I saw that I was concerned that I would have another accessory to add to my "bag of swords", but was pleasantly surprised to find storage on his back. Which carries over to his alt mode.

Overall: There's only one thing I don't like about this figure and that's the fact that the swords are made of flimsy plastic. Other than that, the whole thing is instant win. Enjoy.
