It's not so much that as a general rule for him, it's more reissues--mostly because Reissues are pretty damned expensive. I don't think he (or I) have much problems buying recent moulds many times over.

Exactly so. If I can get the vintage one cheaper, why would I bother with a reissue?

Generally speaking, I have no issue buying moulds multiple times whatsoever, and will readily buy a second. Takes a good mould to make me buy a third, and a really good mould to go higher than that.

I have over seven Onslaughts. Heh.

The problem is that vintage toys are often scuffed or missing bits. I would rather have one toy at c10 than several damaged c5 toys.

I'd rather pay a fraction of the price, and know the expensive reissue is worth paying for, than pay through the nose upfront, and get a toy that stinks.

Pity the people that bought the Kup/Wheelie reissue.

How so? Was there some problem with it?

No, it's that Kup and Wheelie are horrible toys in the first place.

I've got the originals, and I have to agree that Wheelie's pretty awful. Kup's not half bad though, apart from the flat head.

I actually hate Kup more than Wheelie. Wheelie is smaller and almost innovative, but would be vastly improved if his head wasn't mounted in the middle of his chest.

If you do know and like what you're getting, then by all means, reissues are worthwhile. The majority of the time, I find them simply far too expensive for the toys they are. I'd rather have a brand new Ultra mould than another Autobot Car. Meanwhile, Anime Galvatron was expensive and very much worth it.

I would agree that new molds are generally better, which is part of the reason I am amazed you like Anime Galvatron. (Galvatron is one of those toys I want, right up until I have one in front of me, as the mold is awful. Been that way since....oh....1986 or so.) I limite my re-issues to characters and such that I really like. And, if the toy is just plain bad enough, as is the case with the old Starscream, I skip it regardless of character.

But, I still cannot see spending any money for a broken/incomplete toy aside from buying one for conversion parts.

Why? Galvatron is Huge, well-articulated (Not just for his time, either), a great piece of retro design work, and most important of all, heaps of fun. He lights up and makes horrible noises! I managed to get my original flavour Galvatron to sound like a car alarm by jamming his button just so.

Broken is different from incomplete. Take, for example, your dislike of accessories that don't integrate, and JT's hypothesis on your rating the toy higher if it lacked said accessories. Imagine if you'd bought Cybertron Defense Scattorshot loose without the gun. Is that so terrible?
