I dunno if that was a question of politics so much as it was a question of Northstar being pretty useless, and thus being "safe" to make gay.
Dom
-notes the strong case for Pyro being gay.

They should make Captain America gay. That'd be political.
- o86, who'd be impressed if they could make him black.

What about Native American, ala 1602?

I can see Marvel making Captain America gay, as it would be short-sighted and cheap. (Cap has been shown to be defintely straight at various points, so it would be a cheap retcon.)

I'm with Dom on both counts. But it'd still amuse me.

Didn't they do a retcon story where the very first Captain America (before this Steve Rogers guy showed up) WAS an African-American?

I dunno, I'm too poor to pay attention. Although now it'd just scream Obama cash-in, and that'd be several flavours of lame.
Speaking of, see IDW is now publishing Obama comics? I want to know if they had backup McCain comics in case it went the other way. Ha. Hahaha.

Are you thinking of "Ultimates"?
As for the Obama comics, I doubt that there were back-up McCain comics. They waited long enough since the election that the comics were all likely written after November.
Dom
-notes that the "McCain" comic read better than the "Obama" comic.

No, it was an actual mainstream comic, about an African-American guy that they tested the Super Soldier serum on before they did it with Steve Rogers. Let me see if I can't find him...
Here we go, Isaiah Bradley's the guy's name. Seems like he's firmly stuck in continuity, too, as the grandfather of one of the Young Avengers.
