Ok, so I've had a better look at some of the pics online and...

The chest thing doesn't really bother me. He does have swivel wrists, which is good, Rattrap doesn't and that's my number 1 irritation on that figure. I'm also understanding that leader Jetfire doesn't have swivel wrists which is just unacceptable for a figure that size. My main complaint with Waspinator is the head visible in bot mode. I was looking at one pic where there were the bug eyes and then there was a second pair of bug eyes staring out from behind the first set. Es no bueno. The legs... yeah, I guess I can see Prowl's point, but the faux bug details are generic enough that they could be anything. The biggest problem I have with Waspy is that leg kibble under the head and abdomen. It looks like some stuck a wasp onto a folded up robot.

But that head... I'll be seeing that comin at me in my nightmares lol.

Yeah, the chest is literally a non-issue, thank you, sick of thinking that a small and attractive detail panel is somehow a real offensive element to more than just one person with a hardon for it. The figure is well-articulated, has wrists, no kibble bullshit, it's a decent figure getting kicked around because Prowl is just louder about his hangup with it. It's not even a great figure, it's just better than much of the shit lately. And way better than Jetfire, who I turned down at $36, there's simply too many compromises and my wallet can't handle it.

As for Waspinator's robot head in beast mode, in person the robot head is just another green detail under some stuff unless you're actively angling it to see the eyes - some of the photos in google images are showing the figure not transformed with the beast head fully pushed back so the gap is smaller. It doesn't look like shit until you hit it with harsh lights or are jamming it into your face to prove a point. The funny thing about all this discussion is yeah, the figure has that annoying kibble under the beast head, that IS a big issue, and until now it hadn't come up.

My latest DC archive: JSA All-Stars vol. 1, featuring the first 5 stories for a number of Golden Age characters, including Wildcat, Hourman and others. I guess DC decided that none of the characters would sell on their own, so it was better to put them all in one volume. Makes for a nice sampler of different characters.

What's the best cure for being extremely tired AND getting stuck for an extra 20 minutes at work doing someone else's bullshit? Retail therapy, of course. And that's the story of how I got Rhinox. Haven't opened him yet, but.

EDIT: Opened him up, and disappointed. Not in the actual figure, design-wise or anything, but mine is missing a saw blade for one of his guns and the hips are kind of loose. Thankfully, my store has a second one (it's been sitting there for weeks without being touched) so I'm going to take him back and exchange it. If, for some reason, he's sold out, I'll grab Slog instead.

Normally it's not my policy to return stuff, but I didn't wait 15+ years for a new Rhinox to get shafted on his chainguns *again.*

Sorry to hear about the missing blade on Rhinox, don't settle for Slog, Rhinox is worth owning and I've read some really brutal reviews on Slog.

Firstly, I dropped $15 on the Star Wars Comics Humble Bundle, 2000 pages of SW comics including the Marvel Omnibus which is the very first 27 issues of the 1977 Star Wars comic.

Also, with Target's Cartwheel app having 30% off TF Generation Voyagers, I picked up Sandstorm last night for $16 and change. I didn't realize how significantly remolded this one was, there are a lot of things that are good and not that many which are bad - the worst being the ultra-loose heelspurs, this is addressed by moving the foot back one click on the ankle tf joint. The marble-shooter gun works, which is astonishing. I like the VTOL mode best, then the buggy mode, and the bot mode is 3rd best aka worst but it's not bad, just not as good as the other 2 modes.

Picked up some 2015 Hot Wheels for $0.84 each, including the Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me which is such an odd license to exploit right on the card front but I gasped when I saw it.

And grabbed a couple comics from the shop.

I'm going to end up with him one way or another. In any case, the Rhinox exchange went off without a hitch; happy with the one I have now, hips are tighter too.

Not sure what people's problems could be, I'm absolutely in love with him. I love the weapons and how they can connect places, I love his fold-down knuckle-duster things on his hands, love his bananas transformation (there's a billion spins on the legs there, and the torso panels wrap around really nicely) and I sure-as-hell love the design and aesthetic. He wears the 'bigass ancient warrior' look all the AoE Dinobots have very well, and the color scheme, being black/red/silver is a pretty no-brainer sell. Only major flaw is his lack of wrists, which does hurt (especially trying to use the weapons), but all the good and interesting bits make up for it.

Ah, yeah, if it weren't obvious, I got Slog. 'Course, I've been craving him ever since the first preview pics came out. The shittiness of the movie may have managed to kill my interest in toys I previously wanted like Hound and Lockdown, but it still can't make me not want these new Dinobots, who really are some of the best things to happen to TF in ages. God I wish we were just getting a whole line of these guys, I can't wait to find Snarl.

Also made other purchases!

HG Gundam Reconguista in G Gundam G-Self: G-Reco's been an...interesting show so far, a surreal mash-up of modern designs and art quality with very retro/70's-style animation techniques and storytelling sensibilities. I'm in for it just to see where it goes, and the last couple episodes have actually been really good. I also rather like the design of the main Gundam, the G-Self, so my local hobby shop getting the HG kit in was an easy sell. Barely gotten the main body built (still gotta build the flight pack and weapons and do the panel-lining) and it's an interesting kit so far. A bit more decal-heavy than I'm used to, but the decals on modern HG kits are nice, and at least it allows you to add all the little details (mainly the blue bits) without resorting to paint. Really just like the shade of white on those parts too. And seeing the G-Arcane show up in this latest episode, I'm probably going to be going in for that one as well. Not to mention all the Build Fighters kits (of course, Build Fighters is entirely designed around selling model kits, something it does quite well!).

Transformers Hero Mashers Soundwave and Heatwave: Been meaning to at least check out some of these Hero Mashers things, but none of the designs really sung to me, 'til I saw pics of the just-released Soundwave and Heatwave. Soundwave's always been a generally nice design, and works well here in HM's cartoony aesthetic, plus getting all the extra bits to play with appealed. Heatwave I had to get for sheer insanity value. Fuckin' TFCC Shattered Glass Heatwave? In general-retail side-line Hero Mashers form?! What the actual hell?! He looks good too, and his left hand can actually hold some of the bigger-handled weapons (like Soundwave's stupid missile launcher) without looking idiotic. Might get...maybe one more to play with, they're at least fun desk buddies to look fun with simple fiddle value. I kinda at least want to find a Marvel Masher with some right human parts so I can make a quick'n'dirty toy of my Soundwave costume from last year.

I bought and returned this toy.

AOE Slog,I think it's a classic example why most TF live action movie toys are awful.

Thought the Dinosaur mode looked okay on Slog, Sadly the Robot sculpt looked like something out of a badly done 1980's horror movie.

Honestly don't like any of the TF4 Dinobots, I think they are all more miss than hit. none of them are passable G-1 homage toys. All of the robot heads are super ugly and looked deformed.

Slug looks too much like a organic Beastwars toy. Strafe with 2 dino heads looks silly and thus bad as pteradons only had one dino head. Slog's robot mode looks like a cheesy 1980's horror movie villian. Slash and scorn look to BW organic & are terribly sculpted ugly toys. Voyager Grimlock looks like a rescue bots toy. Snarl looks great in sculpt but those grass green colors ruin the sculpt.

Think it was a bit cruel on Hasbro's part to release the mass release retail versions in those awful colors. Even more crueler was charging almost tripple prices for the SDCC G-1 Deco. Have no interest to spend double getting the badly done Platinum BBTS/Amazon gift set colors.

I bought and kept the Leader scale TF4 Grimlock toy because i'm bias and like the Leader scale TF toys.

I really dig the look of Slog's dino mode quite a bit. I get a strong Dino-Riders kind of vibe off of it. Still, I wasn't sure about it, but if he indeed resembles a bad 80's horror villain then I might be in.

Now I sort of want movie maniacs Transformers. Just some severely dumb shit like a Freddy that turns into a red and green striped fighter jet, or a Jason that turns into a boat.

Man, I'm not sure what old horror movies you're watching, but if they've got villains that look as badass as Slog here, I need to know now.

I guess I'm mostly confused as to why you bought the toy in the first place at all, given that your primary problem with it (its design/aesthetic) could easily have been gleamed from looking at pictures of it online, or the ones on the box, or, y'know, *looking at the toy while it was in the box before you bought it*. Unless, I guess, you somehow thought pulling the figure out of the packaging would cause it to magically reform into a sexy beautiful curvy beautiful conventional robot that turned into a panther or whatever, but then I'll also admit that I'm not the king of easily understood personal logic myself. *shrug*

The AoE Dinobots in general really remind me of DinoZone, and I love them for it. These are some of the best new TFs since the Beast Hunters Predacons.
