I freakin' love Mystery Men. I agree totally underrated and I've always wanted to see a sequel. It's been on HBO this month and one of the times I was watching it I also noticed Michael Bay.

Arrived in the mail today: The Green Lantern omnibus vol. 2. This has early 60s reprints in it. The last story is GL #45, which happens to be the only Silver Age comic I have a copy of, so it'll be interesting to compare and see how accurate the reprint is.

HG Gundam Amazing Exia model kit - Hobby shop got this in for me, pretty jazzed about it. A testament to Gundam Build Fighters' astounding success as a marketing machine of an anime is the way the line of tie-in model kits has continued well after the show's end, running all the way up to the premier of the new series next month. The Amazing Exia's release in particular is an interesting case: In the show, the Amazing Exia really only existed in-story so it could get modified into the Exia Dark Matter, the 'final boss' kit of the series. But where the Dark Matter is a hilariously edgy look with colors that don't look great on the kit itself, the Amazing Exia is a beautiful sex machine that people were clamoring for, so Bandai turned out an official release of it for the tail-end of the line. Seriously, this thing is beautiful and I cannot wait to build it.

Also picked up a Build Fighters GP Base, a kit of the bases the characters use in-show to store their player information. Neat little thing, and I love the idea of a Gundam Build Fighters role-play toy (you know I loves me some role-play toys), just gotta build it, maybe get an LED for it and print out a custom screen for it with 'my' information (though I don't have an actual custom Gundam kit I could reference on it).

I've seen Mystery Men a few times since I saw it in theaters, and every time I get that feeling of almost getting something out of it only to be let down by shoddy focus and woefully cliche plot. It's supposed to be the opposite of a hollywood superhero movie and yet, like Watchmen, it turns right into one. And they highlight the stupidest elements then expand upon them. By the end, the only thing I like is The Bowler (of whom I have the carded MM action figure), and then I wonder why I wasted my time again when I knew that's how I felt before. Plus, the film has 100% way too much of Ben Stiller, and that shit goes NOWHERE.

As for hauls...

Replacement Roadbuster - tighter joints and proper assembly can't change my mind that this figure is too simple and cheap, feels like a Big Lots TF-wannabe toy almost.

Generations Rattrap - oh dear. I want to like this figure, it has good personality, but the amount of miserable shell parts everywhere and they're loose and they get in the way and they don't add anything to the robot mode and they don't come together well in beast mode, it makes it difficult to like. Too much floppy shit, plus the comic it comes with is a book he doesn't appear in.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

Masterpiece Wheeljack arrived from Japan yesterday. MP Wheeljack is a pretty good figure, but ridiculously complicated to remember what moves where when, and since he came out after MP Prowl, he suffers from not having Prowl's white paint, bald white plastic simply looks cheap. Luckily there's a mountain of racecar graphics painted all over WJ. Sculpting is a little different from previous MP cars in that the head is even more cartoony, and the torso seems like it's wearing kibble rather than being integrated with car stuff... despite being made entirely of car stuff! Overall, very good, very complicated.

A handful of comic books.

A Matchbox '56 Buick Century police car, it's very sexy in powder blue with gray, unchromed lights and bumpers.
