Get Henkei Megs. Seriously. I got one when he was current, and I never regretted it. Fixes all the problems of the colour scheme. If I'm not wrong, he's been reissued a few times, too.

But specifically, I can't stand his proportions, specifically his legs/feet, being all huge and rhombus-y, made entirely out of flat surface areas. It throws his upper body off balance, which is made worse by how 'long' his hood-chest is, and the shoulders feel too close to the body, and his head seems a bit too small to boot. Like I said, this is all stuff that makes it unappealing to *me*, specifically. You can like it, that's fine, but for whatever reason, looking at that toy actively irritates me.
The way they designed the toy is a deliberate misreading of the original box art. Most of the early G1 box art was drawn in a way that you appeared to be looking up at the robots, the way you would if they were actually in front of you, life-size. Which makes sense--you really want to sell the idea that these guys are fucking huge. But designing the toy to follow that exactly is...not great.
I would kill and eat a hobo to get a Masterpiece Ginrai. It would actively stop me from poking around on eBay for an affordable version of the G1 toy. And this is me, not even liking Masterpiece that much! The fact that I think he's got the second-best shot at this thing, after Star Saber, gives me some hope, too.
You can get a God Ginrai reissue--even the US version--for about $200. (I realize that's not really "affordable.") But you're right, I would also kill and eat an orphanage for one.
