Eh, didn't really think to ask. Plus it's just my first time through the single-player, I figured I might as well see what that's like before I jump into getting mercilessly slaughtered in the multiplayer (one reason I tend to avoid shooters is that I'm just so *bad* at them, reminds me exactly how worthless I would be in a real firefight).

Who else has it? Mako and Shocky, yeah? Mako, you're here, what times would you be on?
No, I meant the co-op. You can do the single player storyline with people alongside you, playing the two teammates you're not playing. It doesn't alter the (barely existant) storyline, either.
Wait, FoC doesn't have co-op? Why would they cut that out after the first one had it? I thought all shooters were required by law to have co-op these days. Of course, they've also been phasing out split-screen (which is monumentally stupid now that we're in an era where televisions are larger and high-definition enough that split-screen could work *well*) so I really shouldn't be surprised. It's gonna be nothing but online Horde Mode deathmatches from now on!
Spoiler
I flippin' hate Horde Mode and everything it's done to video games.
I don't know why they don't have it! It sucks, and I complained, and was basically told to suck it up.

And Horde Mode doesn't work like that at all; Horde Mode (Escalation in WFC) is basically Endless Enemies Come After Group Of Co-Op Players. THAT will presumably stick around in FoC (it's one of the most popular multiplayer modes in WFC) but the campaign co-op is gone. Deathmatch and Horde Mode is totally different.

I know, but I just started playing this weekend and didn't think to see if anyone else here would want to slog through it with me. And I don't want my lame-ass holding back some random guy I pair up with online.

Sorry, the deathmatch insert was annoyed hyperbole, I know what Horde Mode is, and like I said, I hate it and the fact that it's stupidly poplular in EVERY SHOOTAR EVAR and they have to include it even though it's a monotonous boring slog of a mode that has literally put me to sleep while playing it before.

I have it. I see you online on xbl pretty frequently. Hit me up, you can try escalation or we can co-op or whatever.

I've been having trouble even getting the multiplayer to work on WFC. Every time I try to load it up, it says there's an update for it that I need to download first before I can even launch it. Then, either the connection fails mid-download, or it just flat out refuses to let me play. Any ideas?

Mako, what's your take on "sandbox" games?
If you don't mind playing those, inFamous is a pretty good PS3 exclusive title of that genre. The second game wasn't as well received, and I didn't try it yet, but the storyline followed up from the first game rather well, based on what I read off wiki.

You already have the Unchartered titles, and that's one series I can't recommend enough. It's not groundbreaking or anything, but what it does, it does very well.

2 other games that I enjoyed, but you may want to just put at the back of your mind for now, are Enslaved and Valkyria Chronicles. Enslaved is in the same vein as Unchartered, loosely based off the Chinese "Journey to the West" myth. Again, not ground breaking, but it is pretty fun. VC is a turn-based strategy game with very pretty visuals and movie clips. The combat levels aren't that hard though, and skew more towards puzzle solving. Once you clear a mission map, you're practially guaranteed to beat it again by repeating the same steps.

I can't really recommend any PS3 games off PSN, since I'm stuck with the R3 server. Lots of issues with purchasing from the US server. Long story.

Hmm, if you guys are STILL playing WfC on PS3, I may have to pick up a copy as well (assuming my timezone doesn't pose more problems than it already does). I played it on the PC, but have since lost the online community that I played with.

I already beat it--in fact, I did so with you! We did that bitchy mission with the Seekers. I was talking about people who have the PS3 version anyway--I know Prowl, Scourge and now Mako all have a PS3.

(And I'm mostly on XBL because I'm watching movies or TV shows...)

Are you hooked up to your network wirelessly? Try hardwiring into the router with a CAT5 to the PS3 instead. And yeah, that makes sense that there'd be an update, but I have no idea why you wouldn't be able to DL it. Have you had this problem with any other games that need updated?

Oh man, I forgot that! Eh, we could still play escalation which is pretty fun. And yeah, I've been watching stuff too so.

Yeah, wireless. So far WFC is the only game I've played that required an update. I'll see if I can't find an ethernet cable long enough and get the PS3 hooked up proper.

Yeah, try that.

Games requiring updates is actually a pretty frequent thing--games get minor (or major) bugs patched, or new DLC is added and the game needs to be patched/updated to reflect this--it's the only way they can make the game menus say "HEY THERE'S NEW DLC GO BUY IT." Prowl has a major issue with this kind of thing but I've personally never encountered a problem, and the downloads are usually like 3MB so I don't see a big deal.

Oh, I have another two games to add to the list!

-Red Dead Redemption, which is basically GTA Wild West. And it's...well, it's about as effective as you'd imagine that would be. The gameplay is relatively the same, but you'd be amazed at what changing the setting does for the game. It's still open world and it goes have GTA syndrome to a degree (tons of stuff to do, but some of it isn't really fleshed out well) but it's worth a rental to see if you're into it. The atmosphere is great, and it's worth it just to play a game that isn't set in a military excursion in the desert, on a space planet with billions of chest-high walls, or in a generic fantasy setting--let alone a really good one. (Several elements ARE really well done--the combat is really fun an easy, playing cards is awesome, horseriding is well-implemented, just to name a few things.)

-LA Noire, which has been touted as "GTA 40s" but it really doesn't match up to that because, unlike GTA or RDR, it's almost entirely mission-based and there's really no free-roam opportunities. (There are moments during missions where you can go wherever you want in the city, but you do have a goal, and you're encouraged not to cause GTA-level mayhem.) It's got a really awesome story and the best damn facial animation and voice acting I've heard in a game. Despite being on three discs, it's kind of short (I think I finished the main story, without messing around very much, in about fifteen hours) so depending on how long you can rent games, this is probably a rental. I lent my copy to my brother a few weeks after I beat it, and haven't really missed it.

I've heard good things about both those games. I think a buddy of mine has Red Dead. I'll see if I can't borrow it and give it a look. I've kiiiiind of been thinking about checking out the Back to the Future game. Maybe. From what I understand, most of it is a point and click kind of puzzle solving adventure. Not too sure it's my thing, but I may give it a shot anyway.

Sci-fi world with chest-high walls? Gears of War, you say?

*edit*

It's payday and that means the Megaman 9 and 10 combo pack is mine! Starting with 9. Already beat Concrete Man and Splash Woman. It's tough just like everyone said, but so far not anything that a seasoned MM vet can't handle. I like it. :)
