I said something about Mileena's 2nd outfit in MK Deception being so skanky and revealing, that it'd be damn near impossible to top. Well they did it. In the new MK Mileena makes her introduction wearing only a few straps of gauze.

Same game that includes tearable clothing. Just waiting for those little band-aids to get shredded off.

Aww man, I thought you were cool. =p

And anyway, Battle Raper is cheaper if you're that desperate.

OMG she does! I had never seen her victory pose before. So for MK10 I'm guessing we'll start seeing girls wearing sheer fabric, so we can see their nipples. Then in MK11 we'll just have girls fighting totally nude. That or DOA will beat them to it. :p

Mercifully I think I'll have learned my lesson by then. I'm surprised there aren't more 'sexy' Fatalities, to be honest. Guess I'll have to rely on Killer Instinct for my mixture of porn and death! Hohum!

I hate to fall back on stereotypes, but come on. These game designers need to pull their fingers out and put them somewhere useful, as my auntie would say.

And it plays about as well as the original Soul Blade did!
Spoiler
And has more interesting character designs than Mortal Kombat god dammit don't judge me for knowing too much about Illusion games.
Seriously though Shockwave, aren't there, like, boobs on the internet? You don't need to plunk down sixty bucks for a terrible game to *kinda* see them.

Hey, DOA's next game is on a Nintendo handheld! That means they're bound to make themselves more respectable! Right? Right?

Y'know, at least I can respect DOA for confining the more exuberant fanservice to the clearly labeled fanservice games, and I can easily avoid DOA Xtreme and Paradise if I want to. The actual fighting games limit that crap to the occasionally revealing unlockable costume, and the guys get enough of those too, so hey. I mean, I expect Leon and Jann Lee to be shirtless every other costume, but they way they tarted up Eliot was an amusing surprise, to say the least.
Spoiler
Tina and Lisa are supposed to dress like sluts. They're western-style wrestlers. Blame that industry, not the game.

SPECIALIST SUBJECT

Post by Gomess »

In all fairness, Battle Raper IS a better game than Mortal Kombat. And hey, they both use a 'taboo' subject as a focal point, and if I had to choose, sex beats gore every time.

Hmmm... DoA really doesn't go that far in sexualising the men if you ask me. If they did, there'd be "penis algorithms" to ensure exaggerated bouncing and swaying in the crotch area. Like Voldo! Except not for the lulz. Also the girls' number of unlockable costumes wouldn't absolutely swamp the men's. Kasumi may as well be three separate characters.

I honestly don't see the cheesecake appeal in DoA on any level, because they all look exactly the same, just with different hairstyles. Whereas Street Fighter, for example, has a wider array of women, but less porn (Juri's just one character, she doesn't get extra points just for being a masochist). So are "diverse range of female characters" and "amount of stripper costumes and games about bikinis" inversely proportional, or what?

But yeah, as Prowl said, if the audience really wants titillation, they can find it easier, better and more diverse on the internet. Pretty sure the memory they spent on Mileena's extra 'outfit' could've been spent on extra stage detail or something. Maybe a sound test? Hell, I'm not buying it.

...MK's actually an odd one though, isn't it, because the most well-known female characters are masked. I'd say "fetish", but "can't draw female faces" is more likely. Gotta love MKvsDC Sonya.

BWprowl wrote:I dunno, the 'default' position for the N64 controller is still a pretty awkward way to put your hands. Maybe I'm too ocd about these things, but I like to have my hands level with each other and evenly spaced when I'm holding a controller, as opposed to one at a 45-degree angle half a hand length away from the other one. And I wouldn't say it's that versatile; rather it's pretty limited, in that you can never be using all the buttons at once.

I've got long thumbs, so the Dual Shock controller's never given me trouble, I'd go so far as to say that's my favorite controller ever. Let me also be the first here to say that the analog circle nub pad thing on the 3DS is awkward as hell to use.
You ever use a 360 controller? I can't remember if you've got one or not.
And as I've said before I've got a bias against the GC controller since it's terrible for fighting games (the shoulder buttons take like a million years to press!). You're totally right about that D-Pad too. Not only is it out of the way, it's way too small.
Here's something people don't realize about the GameCube's shoulder triggers: They're *analog.* True analog, just like the sticks. I played Need For Speed Underground on the GameCube and could actually throttle and control my speed depending on how far in I held the trigger. Granted, this makes them not the best for fighting games, but I don't play those anyway.
BWprowl wrote:The internet having this many different words to describe nerdy folks is akin to the whole eskimos/ice situation, I would presume.
People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Eh, I've always been more interested in the top than the bottom, so sexy shirtless showing-off is the focal point for me. And hey, Zack's got a big swaying penis allegory stuck to his head for a couple of his (shiny skintight spandex) costumes, so whatevs.

Some of that unlockable costume stuff is pretty BS though. Why the hell does Leifang (the one girl with a different body type, mind) just have eighty-billion different colored qipao?

I've used one before. It's a bit thick for my hands, and the D-Pad doesn't feel as precise as I'd like, but it ain't bad.

Eh, I knew they were analog, but hardly any games I played actually used that feature, so they just felt cumbersome instead. Fun fact, one of the games that DID use them was Capcom vs SNK 2 EO with it's "simple" control scheme. All the punches and kicks were mapped to just those two shoulder buttons: the level you pressed them determined the strength of the attack. It was...not the most precise system.

Yes, I know there's boobs on the internet. Man there's lots of boobs on the internet. But I've been a fan of the Mortal Kombat games since the first so I kind of have a soft spot for them. Anyway, yes, I actually did plunk down the $60 for Mortal Kombat.
