TF Views

My third ROTF Transformer purchase came as quite a surprise, since I had no idea this figure was in the works. Legends class Tankor, a repaint of Legends class Brawl from the first Transformers movie. The figure very much appears to be a homage to Tankor from Beast Machines, and since I am quite a fan of that line and show, I had to pick it up.

Robot mode: the figure is mostly a darker shade of "sky blue" with charcoal treads and silver highlights, including the face. The face is all silver except for the red optic, which does a nice job evoking Tankor without being exactly the same. The figure has a red X on the chest along with three yellow stripes, and the stripes reappear on the legs as well. Again, the colors aren't exactly the same as the original figure, but they're close enough to give a good impression of Tankor's deco.

Articulation: hips and shoulders mainly. The ankles fold in for transformation, and the upper thighs swivel. The articulated joints are ball joints, so that gives a bit more range than ratchets would.

Transformation: the head ends up under the front of the tank, the legs form the back half, and the arms form the turret. The barrel folds out from the left arm. Simple, as all Legends class are.

Tank mode: the turret doesn't rotate, but the tank looks pretty decent in blue with a silver front with yellow stripes. Not realistic at all, but a good color scheme.

Overall: the base figure was already quite good for these smaller-than-a-basic Transformers, and the Beast Machines homage is very welcome. Recommended.

And time for some more reviews. I've gotten and sold a lot of figures since my last one so here goes:

Scalpel: The microscope mode looks pretty good, but the figure had parts snap off right out the package. I was actually looking forward to this figure for the spider thing because I have an affinity for spiders but the spider legs were so badly done on this figure that he doesn't even stand properly. Then there's the neck of the microscope mode looking enormously phallic of transformed improperly. Fail.

Swerve: I really feel like this is the Sideswipe we should have gotten. Don't get me wrong, I like regularswipe, but the red on Swerve just looks better. I like the head too. Win.

Demolishor: I never tried to actually transform it into it's proper bot mode. He did make for several fanmode Devastator limbs though.

Depth Charge: Ordinarily I don't get movie toys unless they've actually been in the movie, but after hearing the reviews for this one I said eh, what the heck? And I'm glad I did. He's clearly one of the best figs from the line.

Dirtboss: This is thing is just instant win any way you contort him. And the colors work well too.

Rampage: If I had bought this thing to actually transform into it's proper robot mode I probably would have been very annoyed. Fortunately I didn't and found all sorts of other neat modes for him instead.

Megatron: Finally got this thing transformed into it's tank mode. I'm unimpressed. The turret is awkward, the head doesn't hide at all in alt mode and parts typically pop off during transformation. Not epic fail, but fail.

Optimus Prime: I actually liked this figure. It's the most movie accurate Prime we got so far and once you figure out that you have to break the chest open to transform it the rest is pretty intuitive. There really wasn't anything I didn't like about this figure.

Dead End: If you like Sideways, you'll like this guy better. He's awesome, get him.

Ejector: Toaster gremlin, go! This one does mainly ride on his concept, but he has a few nifty bits to go with. The concept is admittedly great fun. It's a shame we only have Scalpel and Ejector in lieu of Real Gear this time around, though I'll take what I can get. In this case, the transformation is neat, more involved than it looks. You can stow any of his four arms, giving him any combination you like. His mouth can open wide, or sit down further for a more relaxed pose. Oddly, the plug on his tail is of the variety found here in EnZed, with the three pins. i'm fairly sure the US standard is different.. Toaster mode is shiny, but gappy from the end. Still! It's a toaster! If that doesn't grab you, he's probably not your cup of tea.

Nope, it's the same here too. 3 prong European style.

Wha? No, the US has different plugs than they do. I can dig up images if we have to do this.

The U.S. standard plug is just the two-pronged thing, yes. Sometimes with the third lil' round prong for...grounding purposes, I think?

But Ejector, even here in the US, has got the three-pronged plug going on. I think it's some sorta revenge for Alternator Ravage having his steering wheel on the left side, US style, even though he's a British car with a UK license.

Ejector is also a goofy lil' bastard. I thought I'd like him more, though.

On our electronics yes, on Ejector no. I specifically looked at that particular part on Ejector when I was at WM looking for MP Skywarp just because '86 brought it up.

As for Alts, I recently had a Bluestreak with steering wheel on the right side and Smokescreen with it on the left. Both Alternators as they were both completely plastic (no die cast). I bought Bluestreak from the original owner who lived here in the US and bought it here in the US so apparently European variants aren't unheard of.

86 didn't mean to imply Ejector has regional variants on the plug on his tail, reread the original post. He was saying that the US standard plugs are different than the ones in EnZed (or Europe I guess?).
