It's $42 on Amazon. It also includes both the movies and a couple other neat extras on the last disc. The only bad part is that all (or nearly all) of the popular music they used had to be replaced with generic stock music. It does a decent enough job, and most of the time you don't even notice it. (Also, it provides a fun game of "What song was this before?" because a few of the stock music bits sound like horrible ripoffs of other songs.)Shockwave wrote:I gotta get this at some point. You know what else was a good show on MTV? Undergrads. That show was hilarious. I especially love the episode where the RA for the computer geek agreed to change the schools mascot to the Decepticons.

Re: Heart of Darkness discussion
I remember reading about that. Since you're in the biz, maybe you can explain what happens with stuff like that? I mean if the bands heard on the series originally had already given their permission for their music to be used you'd think that the agreement would stand for any/all airings or productions of the show right? But I've heard of multiple times where dvds had to have different music for shows because they didn't have license to use it anymore. Undergrads is probably the best example but I know the Voltron got served sketch on Robot Chicken has no less than at least three sets of music applied to it that aired.Onslaught Six wrote:It's $42 on Amazon. This is right up there with Toyfare having to edit out their usage of the Mego Superman toy because DC sued them.

Well, it depends a lot on the original deal made. Sometimes these things expire due to time, and as much as it seems like it'd be simple, they do actually have to have a different deal in place for broadcast on television vs. releasing on tape or DVD.
The other thing is that, a lot of times, it's not even the bands involved--it's the record labels and publishing companies. Because, for example, when you put an Offspring song in an episode of Daria, you're not putting "the song" in there, because a song is like a story--it's not an actual thing, it's just an idea. You can copyright a "song" and get paid for its useage but it's another thing entirely for me to use a specific recording of that song for something. For example, if I want to record a cover of Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train, I have to pay Ozzy (and the other writers of the song, if any--in fact, I may not have to pay Ozzy at all, depending) a certain amount of money. (Or, well, I can forgo that and do it anyway, but then I can get sued.) On the other hand, simply covering Ozzy's song doesn't give me permission to use Ozzy's original recording in any way I want to--I would have to then go out and take out a 'different' license to use Ozzy's original recording, and have to pay a 'different' fee--possibly to Ozzy or possibly to BMI or whoever owns the rights to the original recording.
Technically, 'any' time a musician plays a cover 'anywhere,' they're supposed to be paying a fee--some kind of license to play that song. In a lot of cases, the venue will bite this bullet instead (as a cost of their operating) but I have actually attended shows where there was a strict no-cover policy because they hadn't paid this fee. (Like the shithole the Protomen played in Pittsburgh a few months ago--there was a sign on the wall that said it was a no-cover joint. They played Flash Gordon anyway.) Even if the venue hasn't paid it, though, they can probably get away with it if it's a small enough place--for example, nobody came busting down the door of that shithole venue because the Protomen played Flash Gordon. (And I doubt they have a specific license to play it out--although I'm sure if they're recording it for their cover album, they'll do it right.)

Re: Heart of Darkness discussion
Yeah it is. They did a Star Wars Episode I sketch with Spiderman and Superman in one of those senate pod things. Superman mistakes Chancellor Valorum for Zod (since both were played by Terence Stamp) and attacks him. When Toyfare reprinted it for the collected edition they changed Superman to Iron Man. Tell me how that joke works with Iron Man DC! IT DOESN'T!!! ULTIMATE NERD RAGE!!!

Re: Heart of Darkness discussion
Holy Hand Grenade...issue 3: No. No. Sorry.
Heart of Darkness #3:
Splash pages make this issue feel shorter. (I have not done an actual page count as I was kind of tired when I read this.) The issue being bracketed by a set-piece and a montage do not help much. Galvatron gathers his army and shows off his fancy new power set. There is no reason to expect the next (and final?) issue to be anything more or better than the previous 3.
Grade: C

Heart of Darkness #3: Galvatron resurrects armies of fallen Autobots and Decepticons to fight D'Void (which establishes that this is apparently the "big bad" 's name). He then goes to another planet where they find the same civilazation that was on Gorlam Prime had been prevelant there. On this planet they find deactivated Autobots and Galvatron says he cannot revive them because D'Void's influence is too powerful there. Inside one of the temples they find another portalsphere that in the middle of it they find .
I'm still glad that we're not seeing Unicron and I'm intrigued to see where this goes. Especially with Galavatron's new army of resurrected Autobots and Decepticons. It will definitely be interesting to see if this somehow lays the groundwork for peace between the two factions or if this will simply result in the creation of a third faction.

Re: Heart of Darkness discussion
I am thinking it will be a 3rd faction. IDW has consistently played up Galvatron and his crew as Cybertronian patriots. (Note that Galvatron specifically refers to the Autobot/Decepticon conflict as a civil war.)
And, (I forgot to mention this), one of the places that Galvatron visits is apparently Junkion, impying that it was a lost Cybertronian colony.
Dom
-actually kind of likes IDW's Galvatron in concept if not execution.

Re: Heart of Darkness discussion
I like IDW Galvatron in both concept and execution. The third faction should be interesting to see how the interact with the war on Earth (if they even wind up on Earth). Galvatron, being a Cybertronian Patriot might go back with his army and recolonize Cybertron.

I read the 7 preview pages on-line of hearts of darkness #3. When I saw the pirate ship,I was hoping it would turn out to be the beastwars 2nd seacons pirate ship. when I saw the crab creature I was hoping it would be a seacon team member combiner.Shockwave wrote:Heart of Darkness #3: Galvatron resurrects armies of fallen Autobots and Decepticons to fight D'Void (which establishes that this is apparently the "big bad" 's name). funny/odd how that crab creature resembled the beastwars 1998 razorclaw basic sized toy that came pacaged with a VHS tape episode.
Re: Heart of Darkness discussion
Too bad it wasn't. That would have added some diversity to Galvatron's army.Tigermegatron wrote:I read the 7 preview pages on-line of hearts of darkness #3.
