Rebuilding the Gobots
Re: Rebuilding the Gobots
Surely he wasn't called that in Galaxy Force?
...Yeah, checked my catalogue and it appears to be "Blender" (Bu-re-n-da-a). So, Blender too! Goodie mixers all over the shop!
(Guys, seriously, is Go-Bots worth watching? Bear in mind I love G1, so my storytelling standards aren't THAT high here. Long as there's characters and overarcing plots. I'm already fascinated by the fact that there are like SIX female Gobots and none of them are pink. Blimey.)

COME TO TFVIEWS oh you already did
Re: Rebuilding the Gobots
Okay so maybe I spoke too soon on the cement mixers thing. Hehe
Gomess, Gobots is a product of its time, and like nearly every other cartoon made in the 80s, there's little in the way of an over-arching plot. Every episode is a stand-alone with the exception of a couple multi-part episodes. But I'd say yeah, give it a watch if you're interested. It was typical Hanna Barbera cheese and low-production values, but there was still some good stuff in there.

Re: Rebuilding the Gobots
In light of news that Gobots is making its way to DVD this May (remastered no less), I felt inspired to resurrect this thread. Left off with Block Head, Road Ranger was next on the list, but since he's been done already, we're moving on to:
Royal-T
http://www.tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Ro ... oyal-t.htm
Don't know too much about this guy. Can't even remember what role he played in the show. I want to say he was on the Guardian Counsel Board along with Heatseeker, but I don't know if that's right. Anyway, the guy turned into a Harrier jet, so easiest thing to do is find the most current variation on that jet that's in use. And we come to:
The Harrier T12

Next up:
Spoiler
http://tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Spoiler/spoiler.htm
I seem to remember Spoiler from ONE episode, and I swear I thought it was a girl working alongside Crasher. Of course, it's been a long time. *checks* Ahem. Well after a quick check it seems that Mz. Spoiler was voiced by none other than Peter Cullen. So yeah. Definitely not a girl. Right then! Spoiler was originally a Lamborghini Countach 500 LPS. Know what they're making these days?
The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4!!!
Don't have time to put up a pic just this moment, but check out this video.

Skip to 1:55 to hear this beast come to life! The sound of its engine put a huge smile on my face!
The epic show isn't really that epic. Just the music. But love the sound of that engine!
*edit*
And a couple pics.

Next up is Blaster
http://www.tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Bl ... laster.htm
This guy is a Guardian warrior packing a lot of power. He transforms into a missile tank, and I recall seeing him in quite a few episodes. He seemed generally good-spirited with no real defining personality quirks or characteristics. His toy came in green and yellow. I actually had this guy in the green color scheme and I think he appears on the show in green too, so that's the way I've always thought of him. Okay, so what can we dig up?
Taken from the wiki:
Still got nothing for Blaster, but I'm moving on!
Leader-1
http://www.tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Le ... ader-1.htm
Infamous for his nicotine-stained yellow teeth, his volleyball-shaped head, and his complete lack of gravitas, Leader-1 is the kind of leader that wants to be everyone's buddy. Was once a high protector along with his then-friend, Cy-kill before being promoted to a sort of leader-supreme role by popular vote. And on a personal note, I think he has it out for Smallfoot. He keeps assigning her to dangerous missions alone.
Anyway, dude's a F-15 fighter jet. Near as I can tell, the F-15E is the most modern variation of that jet. They're all being replaced by F-22 Raptors, but the F-15s will be in service at least until 2025, so they're still very much viable, and Starscream from the Bay movies already turns into a F-22.
What do you think?

Next up: Rest Q
http://www.tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Rest-Q/rest-q.htm
As far as puns go, this is one of the more unusual names on the list. Okay, so Rest-Q like Rescue. But. . . Rest Q?? I'm not sure what the Q could stand for. I'm sure nothing, but what *could* it stand for? Quarantine? Q as in Q from the James Bond movies? Maybe someone at Tonka (or Hanna Barbera) really liked the crazy ol' inventor? I don't know. Well, the original Rest Q is a pretty generic looking ambulance. A large, white van with little in the way of detailing. Let's step it up.

No longer a full size van, I think Rest Q should be a Critical Care Unit. Bigger, beefier, LOTS of decals and details that break up the all-white look of the original while still being a white truck. Plus it looks cool all lit up at night (though I'm sure that's true of any emergency vehicle when the light hits their reflective decals). Yep! I'm quite happy with this one.
And NEXT!!
is Scooter, but we've already done him.
NEXT!!
Jeeper Creeper
http://www.tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Je ... reeper.htm
Like Hound, this guy turns into a U.S. Army Jeep. Easy solution would be to update him to the current model of Jeep being used by the Army.

YAY! I found some info about this thing!
http://www.allpar.com/SUVs/jeep/J8.html
I don't know, but the tan color might distinguish him from Hound a bit. Of course, everyone would say he's ripping off Swindle then. Either way, it's good. What do you think?

Taken from the wiki:
Wow. So it seems like the only true "missile tanks" out there look pretty much like regular tanks augmented with missiles. Quite a different look from Blaster's alt mode. Uh... maybe a little help with this one...A missile tank is an armoured fighting vehicle fulfilling the role of a main battle tank, but using only guided missiles for main armament. Several nations have experimented with prototypes, notably the Soviet Union during the tenure of Nikita Khrushchev (projects Obyekt 167, Obyekt 137Ml, Obyekt 155Ml), But only the West German Jaguar 2 saw service as a standard vehicle, although the Soviet IT-1 missile tank also saw limited service.

Pathfinder
http://www.tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Pa ... finder.htm
Pathfinder was cool. She always came off as the real 2nd in command to me, not Turbo or Heatseeker. I'm not sure how many appearances she made, but I seem to remember that she was around a lot. And whenever she showed up, she seemed like the kind of person that took command (when Leader-1 wasn't present). Oh yeah, and she turns into a UFO. What to do with that...
Well... you're not going to believe this, but I found something that could work for Pathfinder. Something real. . . sort of. I tried finding some sort of plane or other aerial vehicle that resembled a UFO and came up with the SkyLifter.
Skylifter article
http://www.kurzweilai.net/skylifter-air ... -buildings

It says they've made a couple miniature models, but no full-size one yet. So this thing is a giant inflated balloon basically, but nothing says Pathfinder can't still be made of metal and just resemble it. Seriously, who's going to go up there and check? I figure the crane could retract and she could step on the thrusters to hit speeds impossible to match by an actual SkyLifter. Get an actual alt mode and retain the functionality of her previous one.

Or this may be one time where she should stay as an actual UFO with no Earth-based counterpart. What do you think?

Crab gets all kinds of cool points for linking to a Kurzweiler page.
That said, I will be happy if somebody re-issues Puzzlor.
Question: Was not Leader-1 an F14? Coulda sworn.....

I'm not sure of the significance, but thanks! They had the best, most concise article on the SkyLifter.Dominic wrote:Crab gets all kinds of cool points for linking to a Kurzweiler page.

I used to have Pocket, the yellow Lamborghini. Cool little guy.
He might've been. I was just looking off the Gobots wiki page and it listed him as a F15. And we all know how reliable wikipedia is.Question: Was not Leader-1 an F14? Coulda sworn.....
Seriously! We don't seem to get many combiners made of cars. It's always construction vehicles or military or trains or whatever. But for some reason, no one ever goes back to the cars.Dom

Re: Rebuilding the Gobots
I was thinking more along the lines of "self-contained merge team". TF seems to have trouble doing this. And, it has even more trouble doing this gracefully. (Magnaboss, the trains and the Build Team all feel cumbersome.)
Dom

Re: Rebuilding the Gobots
Yeah, Leader-1 is the F-15 Tomcat which had the retractable wings. As we all know the Decepticon jets were the F-15 Strike Eagle with the static wings.
