And, hey, I almost forgot *my* stupid idea:

Okay, you know that line from "Julius Caesar", "Et tu Brute?"

The context is that Caesar is in the process of being whacked by a bunch of guys. Among those guys is his friend Brutus. Getting killed is bad enough. But, getting killed by a mob that includes his buddy is more than JC can bear. "Et tu Brute?" can be translated roughly as "Aw man, you too? Ass-hole."

Now, here is my plan. Re-write the whole play with Caesar being a super action-hero type, rather than an impotent, deaf, seizure-prone wimp. No, seriously. Think about it. After single-handedly slaughtering his attackers, JC would pick up a knife, or club, or crossbow, .....or....hey!.....a Kalashnikov (yeah, definitely a Kalashnikov), look over at Brutus, and then.....

"Et tu Brute?" ("You too chump?")

Dom
-best idea ever. Seriously. Awesome.

Okay, return of the stupid thread.

Check this out....

"Shattered Glass" Grapple......and he would be based on Albert Speer. This has the awesome side-effect of giving the "Shattered Glass" a treacherous Starscream type.

Dom
-wonders if it is a good idea to tempt fate on this sort of thing.

Zombie tawpic rawr!

Okay, so Dom's Longarm kitbash got me thinking again about that TF-based 'Dark Reign' riff we momentarily pondered some time ago. Aside with quickly coming up with my own list of imposter Autobots and their real Decepticon identities:

Longarm – Shockwave
Shooting Star (Star Convoy/Star Saber homage/rip-off) – Megatron
Jetfire – Starscream
Blaster – Soundwave
Hound – Swindle
Prowl – Barricade (maybe, if we're allowing Barricade to cross into G1 continuity)
Sideswipe – Breakdown
Sunstreaker – Dead End

I got to thinking about the context this story would take place in. Do Optimus Prime and the Autobots represented here end up disppearing for story-related reasons, so deep-cover agent Longarm uses the opportunity to draft his Decepticon buddies in to generate this ruse? Obviously such a story would need to take place in a canon where the Autobots are looked upon favorably by the people of Earth, and what the 'Dark Autobots' stand to gain from the deception would vary with that as well (energy from the world's leaders? An eventual discrediting of the real Autobots?).

If we go with the idea that 'Longarm' is an established Deep Cover Autobot who the real Autobots look upon favorably, it's possible he could get the remaining 'real' Autobots to believe him and his group and go along with the ruse, even providing conflict as the Autobots splinter over which ones think their 'friends' are really who they say they are.

Just went ahead and posted it here, because even though this idea is fun to me and has potential for entertaining hashings-out of, it's still a stupid rip-off of an idea.

If I recall correctly, (thought my memory has been less than reliable of late), this was supposed to be rooted in something vaguely similar to the Earth that Marvel (or Marvel UK) G1 was set on. Did we see this as part of "Dark Reign"? That is kind of the direction that my thinking is going.

I am thinking maybe have the Autobot/Decepticon disguise be more based on ability.

These first 4 are well and good.
Longarm – Shockwave
Shooting Star (Star Convoy/Star Saber homage/rip-off) – Megatron
Jetfire – Starscream
Blaster – Soundwave (or maybe Thundercracker)

Hound – Are there Decepticons with sensor suites and hologram type powers? Maybe one of the Insecticons, with the clones standing in for holograms?
Prowl – Maybe Onslaught or even Swindle? Prowl's gimmick is that he is a tactician.
Mirage- Ravage? Maybe Skywarp?
Ratchet-Scrapper?
Wheeljack-Detritus or maybe Knockout?

And, if this is rooted in 616 Marvel, what about human allies?

If this is based on the old Marvel stuff, the motive could simply me Megatron's insanity. (This would also parallel Osborn's "I need my copy of ________" from "Dark Avengers".

Ah, see, my thinking with this was that the Decepticons were disguising themselves as the Autobots, to win the trust of potential human allies and the remaining ‘real’ Autobots. Thus, looks would generally be the deciding factor here (Ravage couldn’t really pass himself off as Mirage easily, could he?). Thus Breakdown as Sideswipe and Dead End as Sunstreaker, since there’s precedent for those characters being repainted into those other characters.

I figured the setting would be similar to Marvel G1, though I don’t know about 616 Marvel (though if I recall, didn’t that Avengers/TF crossover happen rather close to the Dark Reign storyline?). It could certainly fit, after all, with Osborne approaching the Decepticons and offering to bring them into his plan (as long as he’s got an Asgardian on his side, a Cybertronian presence can only help too, right?), though my original thinking for the story was that it would be a totally independent TF story that just imitated the high concept of Dark Reign.
And, if this is rooted in 616 Marvel, what about human allies?
Well Venom/Dark Spider-Man, obviously. Complete with a panel near the end of Dark Spidey swinging web around Optimus Prime in an inspired homage to Marvel TF #3.

Also Osborne in a giant transforming version of his Iron Patriot armor based on one of the Iron Man Crossovers molds (why none of those ever got an Iron Patriot recolor is beyond me).
If this is based on the old Marvel stuff, the motive could simply me Megatron's insanity. (This would also parallel Osborn's "I need my copy of ________" from "Dark Avengers".
This I can see. Megatron going “If victory always goes to the Autobots… *bitchin’ splash page of all the ‘Dark Autobots’* then that is who we shall become!”

I *almost* hope that Sepalik/Troop/Willis gets wind of this, just to see how ridiculously they mangle it.
