Congratulations, Crab! I've been on a bit of a Castlevania kick lately myself. Finally finished the N64 game with all characters (hey, *I* liked it), and now moving onto the Simon games. SNES one's already down. Always wanted to play the X68000 one... Might have to invest in the PlayStation remake if it's cheap...
...Has Konami released a compendium of old Castlevanias? They really should, but I haven't heard any word of such a thing. Surely they could fit at *least* the first five games on one modern game disc.

Thanks!
I know they've done a couple remakes, but no compilations. Dracula X chronicles on PSP which comes with SotN, Castlevania Chronicles on PS1, and. . . I think that's it. They really do need to come up with a big giant compilation disc. On the PS3 or 360 they could easily fit most all the 2D games on there, I'm sure.
And I have to say it again- Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia is just one of the most incredible Castlevanias I've ever played. It's just so damn FUN!! I found out last night that if I turn into a catwoman, I can talk to the cats in town and they'll give me hints about where hidden stuff is! And all the sprites are completely redrawn and updated. Everything looks so fresh and new in this game. Haven't had this much fun with a Castlevania since SotN. Though Super C4 on the SNES was a lot of fun too.

I wasn't drawn to Ecclesia because- well, I don't have a DS, but also- it's set at the time in the Castlevania story when the Belmonds had momentarily vanished. And those games always annoy me, because they've *never* even hinted at how this happened. Such a missed opportunity for a nifty mystery story. The closest anything's come was the SotN audio drama that says Richter (the "last Belmond" before Julius) wanted to just live a peaceful life after all the bad stuff he did in SotN, and subsequently gave up the Vampire Killer whip.
...Well, I really liked the Mega Drive game, but that might be rose-tinted specs more than anything. And AoS, but that gets a free pass because it's meant to be Teh Final Chaptur.
Anyway, I'm seriously considering asking for Curse of Darkness for my birthday. I know it's gonna suck, but at least it won't be my money. I'm just really curious about what happens in a sequel to arguably one of the most popular Castlevanias ever. Especially with Ralf as the bad guy! Shame about the obligatory White-Haired Antihero protagonist, but the other bad guy appears to be Leatherboy Iori Yagami. Woo!
And yes. One of the biggest draws for me is that you can set the audio to Japanese. RARUFU SHII BERUMONDO > Trevor Belmont!

The disappearance of the Belmont clan plays a big role in the story of Ecclesia, actually. Albus, the main antagonist for the first half of the game, reveals that he's been studying the people of Wygol village with the belief that some of them are direct descendants of the Belmont lineage. There's a few people in town that definitely seem to confirm that suspicion. A little girl has recurring dreams of "a man with a whip fighting something scary." A musician in town composes songs for you that happen to be the tunes from the original Castlevania. Just an easter egg, but I liked to think he was somehow channeling the experience and knowledge of his bloodline. Hehe. Sadly there are no fighters in town. It would seem that Richter's desire to live a peaceful life came true and his descendants are all peaceful people as well. So there you go. The Belmont bloodline is still very much alive. The current direct descendants just aren't aware of their lively history.

Well, that's a bit more like it! But, I dunno... I'd still like to play as someone of the blood. Just explore the lineage a bit more. Like if the Mega Drive game was remade with cut scenes!! X]
at least then they might finally explain why eric's spear is named after alucard
still no canon reason that i can see

I thought Castlevania Bloodlines was eliminated from the timeline? I never could figure out the reasoning behind trying to ram the events of Bram Stoker's Dracula into the Castlevania universe by making John Morris the son of Quincy Morris and all that. Castlevania already has its hero. We don't need a Van Helsing or a Quincy Morris or a Jonathan Harper. We've got the Belmont Clan! . . . and Shanoa
I'd be cool with a revamped version of all the Castlevanias on a compilation disc as long as the original versions were also included. I'm not so sure about cut-scenes. When it comes to remakes they kind of scare me, only because people can take them way too far. I think the dialogue bubbles with the character portraits work fine as is. Maybe save the flashy cut-scenes for the intro and endings?

Bionic Commando Rearmed is THE way you remake an NES game. Period. (Well, okay, you can also remake it on the GBA/DS with sprites still. That works too. Just look at Metroid: Zero Mission!)
Got this from Wikia, too:
In Portrait of Ruin, it is revealed that the Morris family was entrusted with Vampire Killer Whip by the Belmont Clan as they are unable to touch the whip until the year 1999 (a reference to year of Dracula's destruction mentioned in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow), so the Morris family was given the task of combating Dracula (as well as other forces of darkness that may revive the Count), with the support of the Lecarde family (as they are the key to unlocking the whip's full power) until then.
In Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, John Morris' son, Jonathan, is one of the two leading characters. John is revealed to have perished at some point before the beginning of the game, unable to fully utilize the Vampire Killer whip's powers without harming his own life, a trait to which he eventually succumbed after sealing Dracula away. Jonathan at first resents his father for not teaching him how to unlock the full potential of the Vampire Killer whip (unaware of the dangers), but after the spirit of Eric Lecarde reveals to Jonathan that his father wished for Jonathan to learn how to rely on his own strength and not the power of the whip. Eventually, Jonathan begins to fully appreciate and respect his father.
And this:
Eric Lecarde was born on May 3, 1892 in Segovia (Spain) into a wealthy family who were related to the Belmonts by blood, and were entrusted in the 19th century by Alucard with a magical spear that he had created to compliment and assist the Vampire Killer whip [1]in an era of no Belmonts, the Alucard Spear. Their destiny would be entwined with that of the Morris Clan were the temporary heirs to the Vampire Killer. The Lecarde family were the key to enabling a Morris to use the full power of the whip.
This makes me want to go back and finish SotN on my 360. I'm stuck at the inverted castle.

Character portraits and word balloons are cut scenes, in my book...
And no, it's still in the timeline. Happens in 1917. But I take what IGA says about the story with a pinch of salt. Sonia isn't mentioned in the official timeline. Why? Nothing's happened to make her contradictory to the plot... They just left her out. Daft. The only game that expressly doesn't fit is Lords of Shadow, but I don't really care about that one.
I thought tying it into Stoker's novel was awesome, actually, very postmodern! Especially making it Quincey's son. But, to each their own!
...How could you thought Bloodlines was out of the timeline? Have you not played Portrait of Ruin? Direct sequel, yo.
EDIT: Here's a timeline based on dates and character ages given in the games themselves or IGA's timeline, just because I know it's gonna come up. You might appreciate this, Crab? Ah well, I always enjoy writing this stuff down.

Checked the Wiki, love their citation: "Dialogue between Alucard and Eric in Judgement". My, how detailed! Can anyone expand on this? I don't really want to watch a Let's Play of Judgement just to see one cut scene. But I would like to know if there's EVER been a canon explanation of the Alucard Spear.
...Bloody hell, are they still calling her "Belnades"? They got it right with Carrie! Wha happan?? D8
