Because I realized that in that whole mess of 'spensive newsprint, there were only two stories that I was really enjoying a whole lot. I mean, the Flash thing, Kamandi, Adam Strange, Metamorpho, Hawkman, and the Catwoman thing are all good, the Batman bit's all right, but only the Supergirl and Metal Men pages were really bringing me back, and I don't really want to spend four bucks on two pages that are really rockin' me. Furthermore, I really, really hate the Superman and Wonder Woman stories in there. Hate.
I see where you're coming from. Superman's been getting exponentially worse every week (first it wasted out time with pages of Clark Kent being emo, and now it's taking us through the *origin story*? Agh.) and Wonder Woman's been stuck in neutral from the word Go. And it hurts my eyes to read it.
Fortunately, I really like all the other comics you mentioned (you managed to name ALL the good ones!) are good enough to bring me back. Hawkman and Metamorpho especially have gotten really good in a short amount of time. And Supergirl's just adorable. I loved the bit a few weeks back with Streaky doing the Kill Bill stare with the mouse on the tailfin.
Scourge, have you considered using the highly searchable "The Incredible Hercules" in your signature, rather than, or along side, "house elf gang bang"? Just asking.
I just do not get the appeal of "Wednesday Comics". It looks to be a case of A-list Emperor's New Clothes. Everybody is losing their poo over a few pages of content per character per week, in stories that will likely be reprinted in a better format later. (Are these stories even *really* worth reading, let alone paying for? I can get the same damned thing in CSN with "Spiderman".)
Well, the stories that are good, are worth it. It's nice to have Just Plain Good stories with DC characters that aren't tied down by the continuity issues of the main books. Plus, it's something of a smorgasboard of writing and art styles, which I like. And finally, it's a weekly book, and I know you know the appeal of those Dom. You bought all of Countdown, you can't give me any grief!

Of course, I'm in love with Immonen's artwork from his days on Legion of Superheroes pre-Zero Hour, and was completely hooked by his NextWave. Since I've never seen his Ultimate Spider-Man work (love the guy, but there's only so far I can follow), it might be horrendous for all I know, but still. I think this is the first negative thing I've ever read about Immonen's stuff.
Anyhoo, whutevs, glad you're digging it!
Don't get me wrong, I've seen some great work from Immonen myself, but his work on Ultimate Spider-Man just seemed to be flat and lacking detail, not up to his usual standard. Some of his later work on Ultimate X-Men was the same way. Maybe it was something he was trying out or a method of meeting deadlines, I have no idea, but the style he drew those issues just wasn't close to his best work IMO.
Marvel's (apparently customary) in-house sniping (smart marking?) is on display. During an interview, Millar basically says the the "Ultimate" line has been bad of late, effectively undermining the work of his predecessors.
I have been ,eaning to post at lenghth about this, as there is a good deal of fodder in this issue. The problem is that I am very behind on reviews, and likely to get further behing. (AHM 14, and "Archie" 600,come put this week., and I still have to review "GIJoe Helix", and some toys.)

How is criticizing that the Ultimate line has been bad as of late undermining the work of his predecessors exactly? Millar himself helped create a great deal of the Ultimate line in the first place, having previously worked on Ultimate X-Men, and The Ultimates actually launching both of those titles and was one of the co-writers in launching Ultimate Fantastic Four along with some later work on that title on his own. He and Bendis probably knows the Ultimate line better than anyone. And he isn't wrong. The Ultimate line has been terrible as of late, especially with this contrived Ultimatum storyline.

That wouldn't make any sense. Dom only refers to Millar's comments on the recent Ultimate storyline. The 616 universe has nothing to do with the Ultimate universe in this context.
