Re: crazy custom question (aka: indecisive Dom deliberates)

But Tracks wasn't exactly the most masculinely-built TF character ever anyway. Tell your friends Road Rage is a girl, they'll buy it.
Tracks was, and is, portrayed as metrosexual. But, the modern toy is clearly meant to represent a "male" character. Head over to tfu.inro and look at pictures of the toy if you do not believe me.

"just follow your heart, Dom!"
I am. But, the path is confused and contrary. I, I want my customs to be good and sensible.
If you already display your action figures for all to see, and devote time to repainting action figures, I'd expect you to have more balls.
Screw you.

Joking aside, I am not ashamed of my hobby. But, I want to do the hobby well, ya know?

It would be half-assery. And, they would know it. Even Hasbro has gotten away from that in the last few years, albeit after a few years of really scraping and half-assing recolours.

"Why does she look like a dude, then?"
"I don't know. Japan's weird."
I am not going to blame my customs on somebody else. C'mon dude.

Will people honestly ask that? Honestly?

If you say a red Tracks repaint is Road Rage, who in the arse is going to say, "But it looks like a dude!"

Honestly??

Fear of that kind of question keeps me up at night.

Screwing up a custom is one thing. Shit happens. Having a custom shown up by an official toy also happens. (G2 Sideswipe, G2 Ramjet, Punch/Counterpunch and SG Thundercracker. For the record, I stand by my G2 Ramjet as superior to the official one.)

But, actually half-assing a custom or not having an answer to a credible question? Oh no, that ain't cool at all. No sir.

Additional questions:
Any thoughts on colour schemes for Warmonger, (an obscure UK character)? I am going to be using a TFU AcidStorm with a conehead as the base. But, the only official art of the character is black and white. I am a bit worried about paint on high-stress parts, but am more concerned about what colours and how to map them. I got the idea from a guy on DeviantArt. But, I am not going to follow his template because the colours are a bit bland. (this will be an RTS figure, for obvious reasons.)

I've got pretty vivid memories of Warmonger being depicted as a brick-red colour on a cover. Were the UK covers different to the US ones? Guess they must've been, considering there were like a hundred extra issues over here.

I'll TRY and dig it out, but... that could be a seriously long-term project. =/

Dude, it's your toy, it's your custom. You're the one who's putting the effort towards painting it. It should damn well be about what you like. Criminy.

Calling the thing Red Tracks seems like the easiest route all around. You don't have to go into whether Tracks is female or male. And like, didn't Alternators give Tracks the ability to change colors anyway? Problem solved. Tracks being red for a day.

Road Rage uses a smaller roof for the chest, while CHUG Tracks uses a broader one, so I don't think CHUG Tracks can pass as Road Rage in that respect either. The face is already a big problem (and what, you're going to have to think about painting lips on it day in and day out?). So, it is red Tracks, you personally don't have the fortitude to rebrand Road Rage as a dude - it's just not who you are.

Smashing!

Actually, I always liked the look of Tracks. He does look pretty much like the heroic protagonist type. I loved that in the cartoon he still looked all badass, had the severely cool flying car mode, and sounded pretty much exactly like Vanity Smurf. Some kind of neat contrast there.
