Dumb fans think Furman should write G1 #81 and beyond.
Re: Dumb fans think Furman should write G1 #81 and beyond.
I still think this whole idea is ridiculous. And being pushed by self important fans who have the most childish need to feel like they have some sort of official influence in the hobby. Shit, if this happens I might actually boycott it based on that alone.

Wait, so now you guys are talking like this is actually happening? It's...not, is it?
Like Dom, I'm not totally against it, if only because it would quarantine Furman and the Geewunniest of fans to a particular book, allowing people like Costa to do cool stuff in the other books without people bitching.

So far it isn't. Just some interviewer being dumb and some fans agreeing with the interviewer. It *might* happen because IDW already did it with GI Joe.
Furman will write anything if it gives him a paycheck. (There was no reason for him to write that BW series; he had zero involvement with BW. If anyone should have written it, it should've been Bob 'n' Larry.) And that's not even mentioning, for example, the bad Terminator comics he wrote.

Gee, thanks. I guess I should retake the 8th grade so I can learn how to force myself to enjoy Costa's shoddy writing. I don't throw insults about at people that still enjoy the ongoing. I'd appreciate it if you did likewise for those of us that don't like it.Dominic wrote: Costa, McCarthy and company can write for people with an 8th grade literacy level...and not have to worry about people with a first grade literacy level complaining.

The point is that many Geewunners don't like Costa's run so far because it's doing things that are new and different and actually has ideas beyond moving set pieces around (which Furman would undoubtedly be doing in a hypothetical G1 #81.)
Re: Dumb fans think Furman should write G1 #81 and beyond.
I don't think this was leveled specifically at you. Dom is referring to people who hate Costa's writing solely on the basis that "It'S dIfFerREnT fRoM TeH GeEWuN!" and literally can't articulate any better reasons than that. I happen to like Costa's writing because he's actually using the characters to their full potential. I mean look what he's done with Thundercracker. We would never get that from Furman.Mako Crab wrote:Gee, thanks. I guess I should retake the 8th grade so I can learn how to force myself to enjoy Costa's shoddy writing. Incidently, I know you've probably explained this before but why don't you like AHM or Ongoing?

Re: Dumb fans think Furman should write G1 #81 and beyond.
According to IDW's forums, there is a petition with literally hundreds of signatures in favor of making this happen. (This petition is less than a week old.) But, IDW has not (as far as I know), come out for this.
One possibly interesting angle:
What if Furman wrote it as if the comic continuted alongside every toyline since G1 ended, with the comic becoming beast/RiD focused, then UT/Alternators focused, and so forth? If nothing else, it would be an interesting stylistic experiment, and maintain the forced progression of the original comics. (Not that I am thinking this will happen or anything, but if somebody wants to present it to IDW....)
Thank you.
We should probably take this to the ongoing thread.
Most people seem to complain because Costa is doing more than showing the "TFs doin' stuff". Costa is actually writing, and using the TF book as the place to do that. You might not care about what Costa has to say. But, at least he is saying something. And, in order to say that, he cannot just show TF's doing stuff.
For example, I am not a huge fan of Morrison. I think he is a self-indulgent nihilist and more than a little arrogant. But, he is also one of the best writers, (comic or otherwise), around. I find him morally reprehensible, but I still read some of his stuff. (I skip far more of it though.)

If they did this, then I'm interested. But otherwise? No.Dominic wrote:What if Furman wrote it as if the comic continuted alongside every toyline since G1 ended, with the comic becoming beast/RiD focused, then UT/Alternators focused, and so forth? I know, and that's why I wasn't taking it too *too* personally. It just came off as a blanket statement that anyone that doesn't like Costa's writing can't read above a 1st grade level and/or doesn't know or appreciate the literary devices he's using. As a writing major, I know. But that doesn't make his writing good. Just like I know all about the artistic revolutions that Picasso brought to the art world, for example, and I can appreciate what he was doing. But in the end, I still dislike his work. It's just not aesthetically pleasing to me, no matter how fresh or new his ideas were.Dominic wrote:I don't think this was leveled specifically at you.

I'll have to post up my reasons in the ongoing thread. I was looking through it and don't think I really ever delved too much into why I was finally turned off it. Anyway, no hard feelings. It's all good.Incidently, I know you've probably explained this before but why don't you like AHM or Ongoing?

Holy crap dude! You're the only other person I've encountered who actually acknowledges that Picasso sucks! And he does! His work is terrible!Mako Crab wrote:Just like I know all about the artistic revolutions that Picasso brought to the art world, for example, and I can appreciate what he was doing.
