Maybe it was because they just reissued Microscope Perceptor last year?

Scalpel.
Yeah, and he shelfwarmed almost as badly as Ejector did. Lesson learned.

Yeah, but my point was that there was one. I also don't think the shelfwarming really had anything to do with the fact that he was a microscope as much as it was just a terrible toy.

G1 Perceptor is one of the better toys when it comes to joints and tucking all the alt modes parts away for the robot mode. A few more ratchets or ball joints and it would hold up pretty well today as a design. If it shelfwarmed (and it didn't in my local TRU), it was probably more for the price than anything else. $35/$40 toys don't sell nearly as well as the $12 ones do.

To be fair, reissue Perceptor didn't shelfwarm, but that's because it was a TRU exclusive G1 reissue, and that's just asking to get scalped to hell and back.

He shelfwarmed here a little bit (meaning I had no trouble finding one) but not nearly as bad as most of the ROTF stuff did/still is. Either way, I wouldn't attribute Scalpel's shelf warming to his alt mode. He was a terrible movie toy which is just asking for shelf warming.

I am not saying that Perceptor needed to be a microscope. I was just complaining about the poor execution of a toy with a design that was so arbitrary to begin with. A better truck/robot changer, or a better execution of a different design would be equally better than what we got.
Screw his G1 weapon, he apparently looks great with Blurr's sniper rifle.
Now, I need to get a 3rd Blurr then. Argh.
(I would LOVE to know more about how they do that, but the chances of them answering a question about that is likely nil--why would they tell us? That's internal information! If it was out there, Mattel might steal it!)
Actually, given their recent track record, the odds of getting an answer to that question are not appreciably worse than the odds of getting an answer to another question.
Mattel would not know what to do with that information even if they had it.
Dom
-betting Scalpel was just over-produced.

No, you give Perceptor the sniper rifle, and Blurr the pistols.

That wouldn't stop Hasbro.

But, the rifle is Blurr's. If I give it to Perceptor, then Blurr is incomplete.
My plan:
-one Blurr to keep intact.
-one Blurr to swap parts around with Drift to make Deadlock. (No sword or rifle.)
-a third Blurr.
Actually, a third Blurr would help the second custom. The Deadlock custom will leave me with enough extra bits to make an Autobot assassin. But, I am thinking of customizing that further by giving it swappable parts. The "default" would be the rifle and Drift's knives. (Drift's sword would just be tossed in a bits box.) But, if I get a third Blurr, I can give Perceptor the rifle and let the assassin have a pistol option.
Dom
-might need another RTS two pack for sigils on the assassin.
