I do not know if "creepy" is the word I would use. It is cheap and lazy, yes. And, it adds fake gravitas to the movie. But, I am not sure it is "creepy".

I have met otherwise intelligent people who would put Michael Bay's Pearl Harbour on the same shelf as Ken Burns' The Civil War.

There ARE people whose already dodgy views of the world will be (mis)coloured by such biased portrayals of history's touchiest subjects, so to me it's scarier than it is merely lazy.

To put it another way..... Bay's dime-store imagination gives me concern for the moviegoing public. Better? =3

Still, fingers crossed for a vaaaaguely well-rounded portrayal of a Commiecon. Bay doesn't ALWAYS write the screenplay...

I wouldn't say I'm looking forward to the movie, but I've finally learned to appreciate what we're given. If we're given poop, then I won't be surprised, so I won't complain either. If I can get at least one fun toy out of Mr. Bay's wankfest, he's done me at least one favour.

But it does annoy me how these movies have kinda split the camp into "OMG ABOMINATIONNNNNS everything is Ruined Forever" and "Dude, why are your expectations so high? It's not Citizen Kane! Summer fun movie, summer fun movie! I'm being so *reasonable*", because both extremes are equally dull-edged.

Ah, okay...um...awkward question: How is the Civil War seen in the UK? Maybe both are viewed as comedies?

In all seriousness, depending on how somebody organizes their movies, it could make perfect sense. (Along similar lines, I have Straxus and Drift standing together. But, only a TF fan would understand that both are characters that started off in comics and became toys later, instead of being toys first or simultaneously.

It is a better way to put it. But, I still doubt very much that Bay will make the actual problem worse.

I see plenty of people who think that polemics are the highest form of fiction, (main characters and questions must have direct "ripped from the head lines" analogues). They are fine with the fact that this guarantees every "good" story becomes dated almost immediately. Of course, if they put such a high priority on current events, one has to wonder how they can justify trivializing current events in fiction.....

Good question, Dom. And brave! Honestly, it's not even mentioned in mainstream education. UK kids are taught about how the US was founded, but the language used obscures the fact that the British waged a bloody war to prevent it. I personally think it's a bloody good job you won it. Relatively.

You're right about Bay not exacerbating an already problematic problem... But without that, I can't really criticise the guy. Oh, except for how he treats his actors. I really wished The Beef had refused to do this on the grounds of what happened to his co-star, because I love retcons that explain why new actors are suddenly playing the same characters.

But nothing can ever beat the new Aunt Viv in Fresh Prince. Subtle, respectful, but funny.
