Power Core Combiners: Mysterious new line?

Ancillary, non-main-line stuff. Star Wars TF, Speed Stars, Titanium Series, Robot Heroes, that sort of thing. They're kinda neat, but we all know they're not really that important. Admit it, you know it's true.

Yeah, the TECH stuff was not impressive at all. But that said, if that kinda thing had come out when I was a kid, I would have loved the hell out of it. It was like "Real Gears" and "MASK" interbred or something.

Cruddy, not-too-well-distributed roleplay toys that were a sub-line of the first Movie line. They were crap like binoculars that turned into a gun and stuff. The fact that you don't remember them is a testament to the fan community's apathy towards it.
They weren't originally even going to be Transformers products if I remember right. They had the brand slapped on them when the movie was so successful. "Look, they transform... that makes them Transformers, right?"

I remember those. I hate to disagree with Scourge. But, when I was a kid, junk like that was as bad as socks or underwear.

Stuff like that is what confused grandparents get kids. (When I see somebody looking at one of those, I do my best to steer them towards legitimate toys.)

We have more pics. http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-new ... ed-169030/

No idea who it's supposed to be, but I'm digging the gimmick, I guess.

This looks like a variation on Armada. A line based on that wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

It solves all of Armada's issues. Armada's Deluxe figures would've made *great* Basics, if they were scaled down more (and so far, these are looking like they're doing exactly that), but beyond that Armada had problems with detail, articulation, and gimmicks intruding on the core figure. Hasbro was fixing those problems as early as Energon/Cybertron, so a return to Armada's ideas while keeping in mind the mistakes will hopefully make for a cool line.

I agree. The Power Core line looks promising.

Misc thoughts:

Can anyone tell from the pictures is these are in TFU or movie aesthetic? I am in either way, but I am curious about what you guys think.

This toy looks to be another Decepticon emergency vehicle. The idea makes enough intuitive sense that I am surprised no lines have tried it before. (Granted, there would be a marketing problem. But, it makes enough sense in context that I would have thought Hasbro would have tried it sooner.)

I'd have to say, from what I can see of the packaging, it looks more like the TFU aesthetic.

I haven't been particularly impressed by these two figures we've seen so far, but I am liking the concepts we can see in them. I'm looking forward to what this line might offer us at any rate.

What the?

Is it just me, or is it really weird to see Sparky posting about toys? Seriously, I can barely recall him doing that.

Anyway....

Okay now, how do we handle this thread? The packaging looks like movie packaging. But, it is looking like the toys are more consistent with TFU. Should we move the thread? I tend to give weight to packaging, but I can see the case for counting these as TFU figures.

I say it doesn't matter for right now. Wait for Toyfair and the inevitable new info, and we can go from there.
