One thing that bothered me was the part where parts from the satellite fall off. To the earth. From space. And then two nobodies also fall and die. From space. Yeah.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

I like GI Joe, in part due to O6's love of it. I've read some really good Joe fiction, and I love the Joe/TF crossovers. This seems to have potential, and I hope it gets good. I did make the same observations as Prowl, though, and agree with him on its being below average. It's Image Comics Deep, heh. Explosions, death, and the word damn do not equal maturity.

I'm a big fan of Ellis' work, so unsure why this is so shallow thus far. Here's hoping, eh?

I don't blame Ellis, mind. I blame Hasbro. You want to tell a real, mature GI Joe story and you need to work with certain elements--and those elements don't necessarily match up with what Hasbro wants from an hour-long toy commercial. I'm not quite sure what I'm trying to articulate right now, I just know I can't quite articulate it.

Also, the thing has four voice actors. Throughout it. I'm not kidding.

I have not seen it. But, a friend of mine texted, and then called, me Sunday morning to tell me how bad it was. He talked about some of the same points above, and others. Hopefully, I will see it this week.

I have my theories about Ellis. I am not familiar with his work specifically, only having read some of his "Iron Man" run. But, I am thinking that Hasbro/CN shelled out money for Ellis for the street-cred he would bring. Ellis took the gig, and one of 3 things happened.
-Ellis, a guy known for being big into counter-culture, is not likely to be at all fond of "GI Joe". He may well have written a deliberately crass story.
-Ellis simply did not care, and just collected a check.
-Hasbro told Ellis something like, "We are pretty sure the fans want *this*, please give it to them." As stated in several posts above, "death-depth" for many people, especially Joe fans.

Still dunno why, it's a great figure.

Partly, it is that weird "boy-band" hair that Duke character models have had since '02 or so. I do not mind most of the uniform changes, but the young man's hair on an officer bothers me. (For much the same reason, the 25A Hawk figure bothers me. The comic pack Hawk is fine, but the faces on the single and 5-pack Hawk figures is too young.) And, the way the arms on "Resolute" Duke are molded and painted, it looks like he has leg-warmers on his arms. (Note the strip of flesh above the dark portion of his arms.)

My favorite Duke figure is 25A Tiger Force Duke. My favorite character model is the older-looking Duke with the sweater from late run "America's Elite".

Eh. The hair I don't mind 'too' much. This is the same universe where a guy with a bazooka wears a bright red football jersey. (And gets killed for it!)

In any case, I still found Resolute itself to be kinda boring and bleah. Oh well.

My favorite Duke figure is the greenshirt version that comes with Red Star. What's your problem with the BAT, Dom?

Yeah, but one of them is Steve Blum. That's worth a little bit in my book, at least.

I have that one, too, but he's not Duke. He's Grunt! Because Grunt actually came in a stupidly expensive pack with another Duke and Hawk I didn't want.

See, here's the thing. I like Blum, I really do. But the guy basically has one voice. I could 'tell' it was him doing Wild Bill and Ripcord and a bunch of other guys. (Admittedly I couldn't tell it was him doing Roadblock, but all the other White Male 20-Somethings, I could tell.)

When Duke and Ripcord are having a conversation in the plane, it shouldn't sound like Duke is talking to himself.

The hair bugs me the same way Superman' mullet on the 90s bugged me. I could deal with it on otherwise good character models, like the Spytroops figure. But here, along with those friggin' arms that look like mistakes, it just makes a bad figure worse.

The comic pack Duke is kinda bland, but has some bits I can put on "best of" Duke.

My problem with the BAT is that it takes a retro 70s model and makes it all dark and kewl. Still, I can use parts from it in a few upcoming customs, including (possibly) Interrogator.
