Toyfair RoTF figures.

Money, violence, sex, computer graphics, scatalogical humor, racism, robots designed to be rednecks but given European accents, and maybe another sequel to the saga... what's not to love? TF m1, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon and now Age of Extinction.

Presumably. We know we're getting, at least, Demmy and Rampage and, most likely, Long Haul.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Obviously they aren't going to give everything away all at once, but still, we did get a first look at several new figures as well as names for some of them we didn't know before.

Let us take this a step further. (And, really Sparky, why am I being the positive one when you are around, The more I have to spot for you on being the optimist, the less I can do my customary complaining. C'mon man, you are slacking.)

Remember a couple of years ago, how much people complained, (while generally did not), about the movie designs before hand, and then they all loved them? Heck, some of the designs changed between this point in '07 and the movie coming out.

I still expect the movie to be doody, but I am still optimistic about the toys, so far. The worst thing I am seeing so far is the sigil-on-crotch feature that red Autobot has. Given the sheer number of rumours, and the fact that the page hosing the photos notes that some of these are "photoshopped mock ups", I will reserve judgement on the combiner for the moment. (But, yes, I really would like a combimer made up of Voyager class toys.)

The only "old character: that really appeals so far is Ironhide.

Dom
-will commence complaining upon seeing the movie.

I wouldn't say that personally... Sure Devastator could be better but the other figures shown at Toy Fair look pretty good to me.
The faces on the Chevy Beat and Groove bots were horrific, literally. Those melty face designs skeeved me out. Even the Bumblebee Mr Potato Head doesn't work.

I thought they said they were, but they wouldn't combine. Considering how simplistic the design looks, I can't figure out their logic on claiming it'd be too complicated to combine.

Yeah, but now they don't like them all that much again.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

I'd think Hasbro's excuse for Devastator is likely that of stability. They probably couldn't get a gestalt that big to transform accurately and still hold together. That's not, however, an excuse. They could easily make a smaller combining version, or simplify the robot modes to still make the large one a good toy. I will gladly take a good toy over a movie-accurate one, as JT will surely attest with the likes of Movie 1's Super Prime.

I really do expect them to make a smaller, proper Devastator. The movie has not set precedent for this toy's level of suck, as we know the individual components transform on-screen. If we only get these two sets, I'm going to be very, very disappointed in Hasbro and Takara. We 'know' they could do better than this, they've done so in the past.

The twins..for me, that's a meshing of two incompatible aesthetics. The stupidly big Power Glove hand, and the weird Biker Mice From Mars faces. It's as if they've tried to meld the TF Movie designs with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They come across as cartoony and vastly out of place. As I mentioned before, I'm really not one to complain about the movie designs, I enjoy the aesthetic now. These just do not fit with it.

On a more positive note, I love Sideswipe. He looks excellent fun, and to be very cleverly engineered. Plus, that Stingray concept is lovely. It's only a shame he wasn't Tracks - I expect this was due to the Chevy Trax, since I see elements of Tracks in Sideswipe's design. Bonus points to Hasbro for making him silver the first time around.

This is you being positive?

Well yeah, the twins faces kinda remind me of Quasimodo and as O86 points out, they don't really like like they fit the Movie designs when compared to the rest. Maybe there is a reason for that. But still, besides their faces, I really like the look of them and there are plenty of other bots that were shown that I like the look of. Sideswipe. Rampage. Breakaway... And although I don't like that lack of individual robot modes, I like the look of the Devastator figure.

Sure! Dom thinks the toys won't suck. Heh. I expect this may be one of the only times where he buys a gigantic overpriced flagship figure and I do not.

As for the Trax and Beat, they just look kinda generic if one ignores the exaggerated hands and oddball heads. I'm sure they'll be functional figures, though they're swimming in a sea of other toys that do the same thing with less ugly.

I 'do' like Wheelie..

Also, booooo that there's no return of Real Gear.

While I agree, the Real Gear guys were only out because they were intended for Cybertron, I'm pretty sure. Plus, hey, we 'are' getting New Basics.

What other modes could they make into real gears? Non-electronic stuff? I could've gone for an alarm clock transformer, come to think of it.

As for the other movie stuff, I've been taking my time before i weigh in on it. Everything I had seen before this had me excited, that's Scavenger, Starscream, The Fallen, Sideswipe, the scouts, and anything else I'm forgetting. This Toy Fair news discourages me greatly. That and the news about Animated that I was slow to pick up on, has me really kind of bummed out in terms of transformers. I mean I guess we'll see how it goes, right?
