Re: GI Joe trailer
That's what I thought at first, too, but apparently a script leaked a while back and Rex becomes The Doctor, and then Cobra Commander at the end. Plus, he sorta looks like Overlord!
Re: GI Joe trailer
At the very least, there is kitbash potential. I can make Derenko from the comics...... Between the inevitable figure of this guy, and those recolored "Resolute" troopers, I can make a pretty good Coil regiment.

Re: GI Joe trailer
I honestly don't know what you guys see in that trailer. It looked DREADFUL, and not 1 thing reminded me of GI Joe. Even Snake Eyes looks worse in motion, very rubber muscle suit, and that mouth is so out of place it's bizarre.
As for Destro,
ps - I'm thrilled you guys are enjoying the SPOILER code.
As for Destro,
Spoiler
apparently the mask is in his family collection and The Doctor/CC ends up messing up his face and locking him in it. AKA another shitty movie with a shitty new origin story to ruin.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

Take note: I won't really enjoy this as 'GI Joe,' moreover I'll just enjoy it as some crazy new movie. And I don't care what anyone says, I liked the Mummy movies.

Re: GI Joe trailer
I really liked the first Mummy movie, it wasn't Citizen Kane, it was just straightforward popcorn fun. The second one however went to pander to kids and got really lost trying to do too much while keeping the kid spunky, and I didn't care for it.Onslaught Six wrote:Take note: I won't really enjoy this as 'GI Joe,' moreover I'll just enjoy it as some crazy new movie. That said, my interest in another generic formula big-budget blockbuster-wannabe action flick is nill at this point. Hollywood has ruined these things by trying to skew them towards demographics instead of just telling a fun action filled story. And using a license to do it because America has gotten sick of the rest of your now-shitty fare and needs to be suckered into these things, that's just rank.

I can see what O6 is saying about enjoying a movie as a thing unto itself, But, it is looking more and more like I will not be enjoying this as anything other than rant-fodder.
The shots I saw of SE did not worry me. But, JT may have seen more than I. I will give them the molded mouth as a call-back to the 1986 figure.

Cobra Commander...
Rex? His name if friggin' "Rex".... If this was likely to be a more clever movie, I would give them "Rex as analogue to "King (Cobra)", but I doubt that is the case. I dunno, maybe I am just being snitty. "Joe" would also work on an ironic level that is probably beyond most of the movie's target audience, being both an "everyman name, and mirroring the "GI" name.

Re: GI Joe trailer
Spoiler
It's likely that Rex is his codename, ala Duke et al.
Re: GI Joe trailer
I know it would not be a code name. I was saying it would be good if the writers would choose a resonant and layered name.
And, maybe they are. It is just a question of how much credit we are willing to give them.

Re: GI Joe trailer
See, this is the shit I'm talking about. The screenwriters don't know shit from shineola when it comes to GI Joe, so they just grab whatever is out there and throw back without any idea if it should be given weight or not. That '85 figure is iconic in a lot of ways, however its mouth is not among them. The mouth, btw, is apparently on the movie costume because originally at the end of the film they had SE utter a single sentence as a gag. They thought this was such a great idea, so clever, and thankfully Larry Hama shut this down. This is the type of dumb studio bullshit that annoys everybody and makes movies like this suck.Dominic wrote:The shots I saw of SE did not worry me. But, JT may have seen more than I. Re: GI Joe trailer
Well, don't forget, the movie execs also didn't think the TFs should talk--at all. We're lucky to have gotten what we did.
