Are the repaints lacking?

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

I have been tiring of homages for years. I can see re-using names and molds. But, give us new characters, even if they are old names.

Heavyload is a perfect example. The name is old. The mold is a re-use. But, it is a fundamentally new character, with a good bio to boot.

Blaster is a mold I never liked. I will probably skip it.

I am looking forward to Dropshot, Acid Storm and Dirge. I never had any of the Cybertron Defense molds other than Wingsaber. Acid Storm is at least a good troop-builder. (Though I would have preferred Sunstorm, a "new enough" character.) I see nothing wrong with Blades, but the Springer kind of annoys me, as it is a "War Within" reference with an Earth form. Dirge is a good mold, and I can deal with a name re-use in this case, just to get the mold. (And, it will compliment my TrU exclusive from "Cybertron".)

Wait, huh? So Dirge is a repaint of CybStarscream, or am I wrong?

Ayup. A good mold, and good colors on it.

Well, holy shit. I'd somehow assumed he was a repaint of Titanium Starscream or something. Seeing as I don't own this mould in either Regular or Jumbo sizes, it's a pick up now.

The voyager scale toy is great. Snag one. Trust me on this.

I don't own any of the two-pack moulds, in fact, so I'll just snag them all...

...Oh, damnit, there I go again.

Could be worse...I've got most of the two-pack molds, and I'll still likely get 'em all.

If I could get rid of the Spring easily, I would almost want Ratbat for the Omnicon sigil. But, still, a vague homage is not worth jumping through hoops for, or buying a two-pack. I might get Blades because I like the mold and the character, but Springer ain't doing it for me.

I'm getting the Springer v. Ratbat pack for sure, if only to reenact the rivalry from The War Within: The Dark Ages. But also, Ratbat! In a new toy!

I may pick up the others if they intrigue me more in person. Even if I already did see them at botcon in person....

I like the second volume of "War Within" that you are talking about. But, I would want toys accurate to it. I can appreciate the use of the unique sigil on Ratbat. But I really do not want the Springer.
