My main issue with this is that it's not anything 'new'. The Cullen voice is cool and all, but it's another G1 Prime when so very many different flavours of him have been available solidly for the last five or so years. Takara's recent Encore reissue is still easy to find. Great for those that haven't been paying attention for the past twenty-odd years, to be sure, not so good for long term fans. There's no draw, there is nothing I want the set for. Shame, that. Much rather have New Year's Convoy with the repainted Actionmaster Prime and the mousepad and suchlike.

Yeah, that's pretty much my thoughts on this thing. I saw a couple on the shelf at Wal-Mart a few weeks back, and was tempted for nearly two minutes. Then I realized that, come the next time I'm at an anime convention, there'll be several dealers with superior-flavor Takara reissues for this price or lower! Indeed, there are certainly better options for a shiny new G1 Prime toy.

Need to snap up a Sky Lynx reissue next chance I get too...

I spotted this turd of a set at TRU in West LA.

It's not so much 'a turd' as much as it is an overpriced reissue. I'd buy it if it were, say, $35. And if I had that kind of money.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

The neutered stacks and the mismatched cab paint and the general lackluster feel of the whole set say it's a turd.

I'm giving the neutered smokestacks a pass because there's (allegedly) nothing Hasbro can do. I'm sure if they could put regular smokestacks on him, they would.

Honestly, paint mismatching has never bothered me 'too' much. It'd be nice if it was exact, but it's not, and...oh well? Granted, for a $70 toy, I'd expect it to match, but eh.

I just want some fists, dammit. And Roller. And a gun. Maybe.

That is BULLSHIT. The only reason the neuter the stacks is because they don't want to bother making new tooling for a different material on the full-sized stacks, either harder or rubberier would work fine. Japan doesn't have a problem with the stacks being normal-sized and they're psycho freaked out by vac-metallized toys killing their kids! The Japanese just aren't as worried about parents SUING them for kids choking on busted stacks.

Yeah, for $70, it should be at least LOOK NICE.

What about Hybrid-style Prime with Trailer then? That thing deserves to be released here.

Yeah, I really don't understand why they don't use rubber stacks. Always amused me that they'd make some things longer (missiles) and other things shorter (smokestacks). I guess they can't chrome the rubber, but considering this is meant to be Anime Colours Prime anyway, it shouldn't matter if he lacks chrome.

I will give them a pass on the legal issues for the smokestacks as-is, but I agree they should change them.

Ye gods, I did not realise it was that expensive. Like Prowl said, there are cheaper and better options. This appeals squarely to the naive newly nostalgia-driven fan who is not familiar with those options. And for that kind of money, I'd expect it to include a hell of a lot more than a DVD, a comic, and a crappy voicebox.

Wanna bet the international version will be more expensive and lack the DVD? Hooray for region coding, kids.

Too many small parts, probably. I do love that thing, especially the e-Hobby black repaint with the G2 Prime heads and the kickass chainguns.

Yeah, I'll be waiting for the clearance sales on this one, and even then it's debatable.

These were on clearance at my local Target for $49.00 on Wednesday. I think for $40 or less I'd spring for it.
