Actually the movie call sheets referred to him as "Enzo" and concept art called him "Rush". He was never going to be Mirage in the movie. That's just the name Hasbro gave the character. Just like how it's Que in the movie, but the toy is Wheeljack.
Huh. From what I read over at TFW made it sound like it was Mirage and then last minute, CEO of Ferrari calls Michael Bay and says "change it to Dino". Guess naming has been an issue from day one then.

"Que" is a Jame Bond reference. (But, I can see the confustion.)
In terms of naming, this sort of thing has precedent, for one reason or another, going back to G1's Jetfire/Skyfire.

Hispanic? I would think of "Q" from Star Trek before anything not Bond related.

Even if all you know of the name is that it's spelled "Que"?? =|
Seriously, is it pronounced like the letter "Q"? That's awful. What does it even mean??

Sparky Prime wrote:Even by some chance if Hasbro had started creating a sculpt based on the Ferrari, that doesn't mean they'd just scrap making the character. Look at Alternators Jazz. We know Hasbro made a sculpt based on a Porsche, but when they couldn't get the licensing for it, they remade him as a Mazda RX8 instead.
That's because Jazz is a (relatively?) major Transformers character. Identity Confusion Red Guy From Michael Bay's Third Movie isn't.
I seriously think that the entire DOTM toyline was phoned in. Hasbro just said, "Fuck, ROTF was terrible, this one's barely going to be better--let's just get the damn toys out and be done with it."

It's ironic you'd say that... I remember when the red RX-8 Transformer first appeared on Mazda's website, which they named "Zoom Zoom". Fans immediately thought it would be an Alternators Jazz but then a representative from Hasbro said that wouldn't be his name. Camshaft seemed to be the next popular guess among fans (and the TF wiki even says Hasbro was going to name him that at one point), but I recall seeing a lot of name guesses from fans. And then Hasbro ended up calling him Meister, Jazz's Japanese name. I'd say he actually had a bigger case of identity confusion than Mirage/Dino.
And regardless of the licensing issues surrounding this character, Hasbro's name for him is Mirage, which is a relatively major Transformers character as well.

As Dom said, it's a reference to the James Bond character who invents all of Bond's gadgets.

I think Hasbro is stinging from the relative disinterest the market's had with the DOTM brand. Then again, maybe if stuff like Soundwave and Dino/Mirage had been released earlier instead of 8 different Bumblebees, they might not have taken such a beating on the aisle.
Speaking of missing figures, anybody know what happened to the US release of the deluxe Leadfoot & Topspin set Target was supposed to get? Are they not going to buy them after all now that the HA Leadfoot has sold so poorly?

Ok, I wanna give my TF a name that references the James Bond character who briefs Bond on his missions. Hmmm. I know! Mue! I'll call her Mue. Yes. That makes sense.
PUNS HAVE TO WORK ON MORE THAN ONE LEVEL
...
i get why he's called "q" phonetically but WHY IS HE CALLED "QUE" IN WRITING
like, i could understand if he transformed into a line of people, or even a bus, and was called *Queue*, but... QUE?!
...
Ok seriously though, why.
