Shane McCarthy interview

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

I don't see it as being that much different than Prime loosing his gun. Clearly Prime doesn't need it to do anything he'd normally do. Again, the only thing it would have actually been important for is if Prime died, which he didn't, so it's a moot point. And there is no sense telling the troops it's gone when they're hoping and focusing on Prime to recover, on top of not being able to do anything about it anyway.

You have completely missed my point.

"Hey, Autobots! Prime lost his gun!"

"...Yes, and?"

As opposed to:

"Hey, Autobots! Prime lost the Matrix!"

"Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?"

Would it help illustrate the point if they showed one of the Autobots screaming "NoooooOOOOOOoooOOOOOOOOoooo" in a funky font when discussing the Matrix?

Only if the font has a gradient, and looks like it was made with Word 97 clipart.

Actually, I didn't, it's my point you seem to be missing.

The Autobot's are already in a situation that looks hopeless. Not telling them it's missing is a point of keeping morale up. Not to mention if/when Prime does recover, it really isn't an issue if the Matrix is missing. As long as he's alive, it doesn't matter.

Alright, *my* point is that something like Prime's gun is not important. So they could obviously tell them 'that' news, and the Autobot morale would not be affected.

However, the Matrix is clearly somewhat important, because the Autobot morale would be affected by the news that it's gone. Maybe not a lot, maybe only a little, and maybe they still have hope because Prime isn't dead yet.

But the fact is, because they aren't telling them about it, the Matrix is important to some degree. If it were not important, the absence of the Matrix would make exactly zero difference on their morale.

As I've already said a couple times already, obviously the Matrix has some importance. It's how it pertains to this story that I'm questioning. Again, Kup's story about the Matrix is only about how it chooses Prime's, leaders that define era's of Cybertonian history. But that's irrelevant as long as the current Prime, Optimus, is still alive. That's why Kup says they need to focus on Prime. That's why Kup says they aren't going to tell the others the Matrix is missing. That's why the Matrix really isn't all that important to this story. It doesn't serve any purpose. It isn't even a symbol of leadership because, again, that's the role Optimus has, and that is their focus.

The focus of the shot is Skywarp (and his killing), not Thundercracker (and his dying). Skywarp is the focus of the closure. Thundercracker is just there to die for it.
