G.I. JOE: RESOLUTE

Post by donosaur »

Holy wow http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episode ... 9221340025

Looks gorgeous, great plot, and holy crap I didn't think G.I. Joes shot people. I guess this is an ongoing series, I just watched through to the end of the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow Fight. This seems like a sort of shake-things-up project, and does what is says in "changing the status quo forever." Was wondering what some Joe fans thought of it, I never actually watched any of the previous iterations.

Well, considering there hasn't been a previous iteration of GI Joe since 1982...

What CN/Adult Swim is doing is airing them in five minute blocks (the original intended plan, although I imagine it was over a longer period of time) and then showing the whole thing this Saturday along with the ten-minute conclusion.

Anyway, I'm...actually kind of underwhelmed. I mean, I'm watching it, and it's pretty cool, but...It's like it's not clicking with me. Like something's missing. I dunno what, either, and that's what's really bugging me.

Maybe it'll seem better on TV, and in its full form? Who knows.

The toys, though, so far, are pretty cool. Or at least Duke is. Best Duke toy we've gotten in years.

I found out that Warren Ellis is behind it, so that only helps matters.

Yeah, that was one of the sell points for me. I love Transmetropolitan, but this is somehow...not as good.

Then again, Bazooka is dead, and that can only ever be positive. I freaking hate that guy.

Oh god I was hoping someone would start a topic about this disaster so I wouldn't have to...

Now, I've never seen any other G.I. Joe cartoons before this, and I've read maybe three comics, so maybe I don't have the best perspective but... ye GODS this sucks! Seriously, they seem to have come with ideas up to 'Kill off characters because death=depth' and completely forgotten any other trace of plot! Behold as Cobra Commander launches his huge, final, global campaign to...get a bunch of money? Really? Be thrilled as the GI Joe team has their carrier attacked, then just sit around on their hands performing autopsies and not worrying about any other attacks that may be coming! Watch in amazement as Storm Shadow arbitrarily calls out Snake Eyes to 'Finish' whatever the hell they have going, because they just HAVE TO FIGHT TODAY! And hold onto your seat as Snake Eyes tromps around a forest, killing scores of Cobra Troopers for no apparent reason. Shouldn't he be...conserving his energy and resources for the fight with Storm Shadow, or something? Augh, my head hurts...

There is no way the movie can be as bad as this. If it is, I will be sorry I ever got even partially into buying Joes.

Yeah, a lot of it's like that. That may be what's bugging me.

But it's pretty and people die and Duke says Hell and Roadblock says stuff like Damn and Shit and That Is Whack, so people love it.

What amuses me is that some of the Joe fans are even bitching about the changes in 'this.' "FEMALE DIAL-TONE WHOAMG WHAT THE FUCK THIS SERIES SUCKS CAN'T THEY DO ANYTHING RIGHT."

News flash: Dial-Tone and Ripcord sucked and were boring.

I know. Trawling through the first page or so of YouTube comments gave me that much information. And made me want to hurl my computer across the room.

Frankly, I'd go so far as to say that Transformers Animated is more 'Grown Up' than this series is...

...I mean, seriously! If Storm Shadow had just wanted to call Snake Eyes out, why the hell did he have to kill Bazooka and blow up half of the Flagg? Why did Snake Eyes just *happen* to have a special flashlight on his belt that was the FIRST THING he pulled out to look at the OBVIOUSLY THERE secret message on the paper? I'll be beating my head against the wall at work today...

And that's your right to like it. I'm not as adamant about it as Prowl is, I can take it or leave it.

Yeah, I know, whatever. There's a lot of Stuff Thrown In Just To Be Cool, but I get the feeling that it's not Ellis's fault.

Oh I know, it's just times like this that make me wonder if I have really awful taste and don't know it, or maybe I'm crazy or something.
BWprowl wrote:...I mean, seriously! If Storm Shadow had just wanted to call Snake Eyes out, why the hell did he have to kill Bazooka and blow up half of the Flagg?
Aw c'mon, really? Storm Shadow is obviously working for Cobra, so the feud with Snake Eyes is just a smaller part of that larger battle. "Storm Shadow, go take out their security dude so we can blow em up real good and then you can go have your little fight with your ninja buddy. Hey, here's some backup too, why not.
"Why did Snake Eyes just *happen* to have a special flashlight on his belt that was the FIRST THING he pulled out to look at the OBVIOUSLY THERE secret message on the paper? I'll be beating my head against the wall at work today...
I dunno, maybe it's standard ninja stationary equipment? I don't know, I'm not a ninja. Are you a ninja? OH MY GOD, ARE YOU A NINJA???

I mean, I'm a guy who knows just about nothing about GIJoe except that Cobra is bad, Joe's are good, Snake Eyes fights Storm Shadow, and knowing is half the battle. To me, this series suggests that there is a history behind what is going on, but this is a sort of endgame where people die because everything is being laid on the table. CC is obvious tired of fucking around, Duke is tired of fucking around, Snake Eyes is tired of fucking around. So far nothing seems terribly offensive about it to me or my intelligence, but I may be proven wrong. I'm eager to just see how it goes.
