IDW's G1 isn't exactly G1. There is no reason why Perceptor couldn't have helped fix up Prime. We've seen him fix up other bots already.Onslaught Six wrote:We know what happens when Perceptor tries to help Prime. Even shiny new badass Perceptor is still Perceptor.

Re: All Hail Megatron Discussion thread
The impression I got was that Perceptor had given up being a scientist to become a sharpshooter instead. Basically, the 'Horrars of Warr' have changed him forever, and there's no bringing back the studious, analytical scientist they could've counted on before. My smarminess aside, it was actually one of the parts of the issue I liked a fair bit, and tied effectively into the theme this issue had about the war changing the Autobots, not neccessarily for the better. And frankly, Sideswipe's whole point of 'fighting begets more fighting and makes Us as bad as Them' would've dovetailed *beautifully* with the dude on Earth killing Rumble for revenge, thus sparking the same sort of pain in Soundwave, except that the ART TOTALLY RUINED THE MOMENT!
I finally figured it out today: It looks like colored-in breakdowns. I just might write IDW about this. I mainly just want answers. I'll admit that I've said some disparaging things about Guidi's art in the past, but it was honestly growing on me through this series, and AYTHING would be better than what we got here (I'll take Pat Lee over this any day...)

I don't buy it. Even if war has changed Perceptor, it isn't like he suddenly stopped being a genius and deleted all of his scientific skills. With a dieing leader and their medic asking for help, Perceptor should have stepped up. It makes no sense for him to refuse completely. He has the skills and they needed it. Any good soldier knows you do what you can, and in this case, Perceptor could have done a lot to help.BWprowl wrote:The impression I got was that Perceptor had given up being a scientist to become a sharpshooter instead. Except that he didn't. You can nitpick something like this all you want, it's not going to magically change the comic so that the next time you open the book you'll see a panel of Perceptor trying to fix Prime. You know what? I could've gone to a local concert tonight. I would've been late, but I got out of work at a decent hour, it's close by, and it's somewhat in character for me to do so. But I *didn't*. Sure, Perceptor may have been able to help Prime, except that he didn't, and that's really up to him, not you. Maybe he's honestly done with being a scientist, and wanted to stick by that conviction, regardless of the consequences. Maybe he was afraid that he would just mess up Prime worse, and then he'd have to live with that guilt. Or maybe a bunch of other things that could explain it. Really, just because he *could* have done something is no reason to get ticked off because he *didn't*. Sometimes we just don't do things, that's the way people (er, robots) are.

Obviously he didn't help and obviously this isn't going to change the story. You pointing that out doesn't change the fact that Perceptor does have the skills and that he could have helped restore their dieing leader instead of just standing by doing absolutely nothing, or my opinion that it was completely out of character and was a mistake on the writer's part for making that move.BWprowl wrote:Except that he didn't. Actually it was up to the writer who, has far as I'm concerned, has written a story full of problems.Sure, Perceptor may have been able to help Prime, except that he didn't, and that's really up to him, not you.
Maybe if Ratchet failed and Perceptor was standing by doing nothing when he could have done something to actually help he would have felt guilty for that. I find it completely out of character for Perceptor not to put his skills to good use, especially when it's to save someone's life. It's yet another flaw I see in this book, and I have every right to express that opinion.Maybe he's honestly done with being a scientist, and wanted to stick by that conviction, regardless of the consequences. I don't know if you've noticed, but Perceptor hasn't exactly been 'in-character' in this story. In fact, several other characters have pointed that out. He's Different now, and that's likely a large part of his inaction in the Prime situation. I honestly don't see what's so hard to understand about this.

Which seems like a flaw on the writer's part to me. And like I said before, even with a 'war torn' Autobot team, it isn't like any of them NOT to help save a life when it's within their capacity and skill.BWprowl wrote:I don't know if you've noticed, but Perceptor hasn't exactly been 'in-character' in this story. Re: All Hail Megatron Discussion thread
Based on Ratchet's comment, Perceptor has changed over time. Maybe he did get some upgrades that reduced/eliminated his technical skills. Or, maybe he is just a bit of a heel now. As Prowl points out, the fact that characters are mentioning in-context how odd Perceptor has been lately shows that McCarthy likely has a plan for this.
Some people, (at AllSpark, or maybe the IDW forums, I dunno), are speculating that the Prime at the end of issue 9 is a fake of some kind, created with the help of Mirage or Hound.
Dom
-well, it would explain a bit.
