Three Jokers #3 of 3

I was honestly a little underwhelmed by the ending. As a normal storyline in the regular books this would have been fine, but I don't think it quite deserved all the hype and special format treatment. My favorite moments were the interactions between Batman and Joe Chill, and the choice of repentance and forgiveness, a road that it's always more meaningful to see these characters go down than revenge or anger. In a Joker story, it's probably strange that the Joe Chill plotline was the highlight of the story for me.

I'm not sure how I feel about the idea that both Bruce and the Joker know who each other really are, though the idea that Bruce won't make the Joker's actual identity public to protect his ex-wife and son is certainly sound. And the idea that Bruce knows the Joker's name conflicts with the very story that set this whole idea up back in the New 52 Justice League, because it was Bruce asking the Mobius Chair who the Joker was that led to the revelation that there were three Jokers in the first place. Why would he need to ask if he knew?

The art was great, but many of the revelations at the end fell a bit flat. Still, it wasn't a bad story, it just didn't live up to the hype, and there was not the great twist ending that I was hoping for.

Hawkman #29 - The final issue of this series is a good one, resolving the current storyline and giving us one of those "distant finale" endings where an old Carter Hall looks back on his life with Sheira. I've read a number of Hawkman series over the years, and this is definitely one of the better ones, if not the best. Too many writers make Hawkman a brutal and bloody fighter and nothing else, but Robert Venditti got the balance between skilled hand to hand combatant and noble heartfelt explorer and adventurer just about exactly right, along with fixing any continuity problems with his "reincarnated across time and space" ideas.

The Green Lantern #10
Sparky, are you still reading this series? It's really gone off the rails over the last five or six issues, to the point that I can't really tell you what's gone on. I remember scenes, not the overall plot. I'm honestly going to be glad when Morrison is gone, and that's a shame, because he's got a good handle on Hal Jordan as a character and has made use of the character's history going all the way back to the 60s, but the plots and dialogue can sometimes just be gibberish. I wonder if they even make sense to Morrison? I'd have dropped the book, but it's one of the few series I'm still buying at this point. Some that I was reading have ended, and some I just dropped for various reasons.

I've dropped the title. Like you, I've found it hard to keep track of what's going on. Morrison said season 2 would focus much more on one-off stories. Which would be fine, if it felt like there was some sort of rhyme or reason behind it.

Looks like The Green Lantern season 2 is coming to an end in March... The April solicitations has a new Green Lantern title launching, but The Green Lantern is no longer part of the lineup.

I don't have any interest in Future State, but then DC's been trying to kill my interest in their books for a while now. I'm not sure I'll be buying anything once The Green Lantern ends, which would be the first time in a long time that I wasn't buying any DC on a monthly basis. Maybe I'll give Superman a shot again now that Bendis is leaving.

I am looking at "Future State" mostly out of curiosity. There are also a few creators teams that like enough for a finite run.

There are also two Tom Taylor bat-series coming up. That is enough to get me to give DC another chance.

I've mostly lost interest in the big two. I read lady Thor and that was pretty good, Superior Spider-Man was good, but I haven't read anything since those runs ended. My wife is a huge Wonder Woman fan, and we have the Golden Age TPB, but man, that thing is a slog. Even I've only read the first issue. I think she may have gotten that far, but neither one of us has had much desire to finish it. Superman is my favorite super hero and I read a couple of TPBs just so that I can say that and actually be familiar with some of the source material. My fandom of Superman comes mostly from the Christopher Reeve films, I never read the comic growing up.

I enjoy Golden Age DC (just look at the Superman and Batman reviews in the retro comics thread for evidence of that), but though I bought that first Wonder Woman omnibus, I agree with you that it's just hard to get through. I think maybe I've read less than half of it, and that's after several attempts to get through it. I'm not sure why that particular series doesn't appeal, but it doesn't. It's very different from the other series I've read from that same era. Maybe it's just a little too different. I'm not really a fan of the character herself, though I like the live-action movies they've done recently.
