Re: Star Trek
The Star Trek Beyond trailer couldn't be worse than the first one, that seems utterly impossible without being a Lady Ghostbusters trailer, it had to be better. I notice a lot of the substantive material in it is from the reshoots.
The Star Trek All Access show teaser is really terrible, it's like a high school art project it's so bad. And that logo is terrible, that's the final logo, not a pre-res mockup either. They need to get this show's message on point sooner rather than later if they're planning to launch in 7 months, ripping off the "cgi exploding planets and zoom away" thing is very unwise.
Paramount is apparently pulling the plug on the Axanar lawsuit, supposedly at ST Beyond director Justin Lin's insistence.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

Re: Star Trek
Trekcore.com has posted a nice image of a cutaway for the JJprise, USS Franklin and a Krall Swarm Ship. Be warned as there are potentially spoilers...
The Enterprise escape pods apparently are called 'Kelvin pods', named for the USS Kelvin. Apparently Starfleet didn't have escape pods before the loss of the Kelvin? And they'd never lost a ship before the Kelvin for the escape pods to be named for that ship?
Spoiler
Turns out the USS Franklin predates the NX-01, it's revealed here to be the prototype for the Warp 4 engine. Which I think contradicts Enterprise. That series established human warp technology was limited to warp 2 until the NX project began developing the warp 5 engine, of which the NX-01 was the prototype starship. And the test flights were carried out by small 2 men craft, making it to warp 3. The NX-01 was also the first starship with a transporter approved for use on living beings, yet the Franklin has a transporter but apparently no shuttle pods.

Anton Yelchin (Chekov) has died. Looks like he left his car in neutral when he got out, and it rolled backward and killed him. What a terrible way to go.

Re: Star Trek
The fact that this contradicts a show that also told us that Starfleet encountered both the Borg and the Ferengi 100 years for Kirk and crew is not much of a contradiction. Besides the whole show got etcha-sketched anyway when Riker walked out of the Holodeck and said "End program". So yeah, I'll give them a pass on this one.Sparky Prime wrote:Trekcore.com has posted a nice image of a cutaway for the JJprise, USS Franklin and a Krall Swarm Ship. Indeed, it is tragic that he went so young, he really did a great job as Checkov.andersonh1 wrote:Anton Yelchin (Chekov) has died. Looks like he left his car in neutral when he got out, and it rolled backward and killed him. What a terrible way to go.

Re: Star Trek
Sure Enterprise had continuity problems as well, but that's no excuse for the films to compound that with even more contradictions. And the whole show didn't get "etcha-sketched" just because the final episode ended with Riker saying "End Program". Only that one episode took place on the holodeck, not the whole series. Besides "Into Darkness" had the NX-01 and the NX test vehicle on display in Admiral Marcus' office, so like it or not, the series is part of this canon.Shockwave wrote:The fact that this contradicts a show that also told us that Starfleet encountered both the Borg and the Ferengi 100 years for Kirk and crew is not much of a contradiction. Sad to hear about Anton Yelchin. I'm shocked he was killed by his own car.
Re: Star Trek
The excuse would be Uhura ordering a drink called a "Cardassian sunrise" in the first movie, establishing that at least some of the TNG/DS9/VOY races are known and have been encountered in the Abramsverse. But there was no damned excuse for either the Ferengi or the Borg showing up in Enterprise. Yeah, I know the holodeck thing was only meant to be the one episode, but applying that to the whole show makes about as much sense as anything else in the series. And besides, imagining the whole series as Riker's holodeck adventure helps me sleep at night.

Re: Star Trek
How is Uhura ordering a "Cardassian sunrise" in the first film an excuse for anything? TNG established the Federation had known the Cardassians a lot longer than what we'd been introduced to them in the series, and no time frame for when first contact was made has ever been established. Just that it must have been some time before TNG. So there is nothing to say the Federation couldn't have already made contact with the Cardassians during TOS era. The Ferengi and the Borg are a different situation. TNG was clear the Federation had not yet (officially) met the Ferengi and knew nothing about them (except rumor) until we saw them for the first time in the series. But on the other hand, TNG also established Picard actually had met the Ferengi long before that, when he was on the Stargazer. He just didn't know it because no contact had been made between the ships at that time. So there is some room for interpretation for Starfleet having encountered them earlier, although I don't think Enterprise should have made that 200 years prior to their introduction in TNG. The Borg though, I'd agree there is no excuse for them showing up in Enterprise when TNG established they had never encountered a species like them before.Shockwave wrote:The excuse would be Uhura ordering a drink called a "Cardassian sunrise" in the first movie, establishing that at least some of the TNG/DS9/VOY races are known and have been encountered in the Abramsverse. The final episode of Enterprise... was terrible. The episode before that made for a better ending. But I don't agree that the whole thing should be viewed as a holodeck adventure. There were some good points to the series.
I'd agree Enterprise made mistakes. But that's no excuse for the reboot films to make the same mistakes.

Re: Star Trek
The new Star Trek series has been revealed to be titled: Star Trek Discovery in a new teaser, which also show new ship, the USS Discovery NCC-1031. The Discovery looks very reminiscent of old Star Trek concept art by Ralph McQuarrie. Based on the registry number, it was built before the Enterprise (1701), so I'm guessing the series will take place before TOS.

Re: Star Trek
I wasn't too impressed by the CGI in that trailer. The animation used in DS9 and Voyager 15 years ago looked better than that! I hope it's just preliminary.Sparky Prime wrote:The new Star Trek series has been revealed to be titled: Star Trek Discovery in a new teaser, which also show new ship, the USS Discovery NCC-1031.
