NYCC 2015

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

NYCC 2015

Post by Sparky Prime »

TFW2005 has several images from the Hasbro preview event at NYCC. Some figures we've seen before, but there are some brand new ones as well, including a new Blaster and Galvatron.

I wonder why the change? Problems trademarking "Titan Wars?" (Maybe some company saw the rumours we all did at SDCC time, and trademarked it in the mean time? Foolish of Hasbro to mess up something that simple if it's the case.)

Blaster looks like a hoot, but I already have the pretty great FOC Blaster (who is the exact height I want him to be) and I'm just not sure I like Blaster enough to spend $45 on him, even a ridiculous one that actually turns into a ghetto blaster AND a sweet base mode. With toy/comic head!

Galvatron looks a little too greebly/overdesigned for my tastes; if they were gonna go in that direction I'd have preferred something closer to IDW Galvy's current design, or even some of his past designs. Still, this is probably the best we'll get, bar an MP Galvatron. Not sure I dig him being a Voyager when Megatron got to be a Leader in Combiner Wars. Scale is such a bitch! Also don't see how Megatron becomes the head--maybe he actually doesn't?

Hardhead looks alright, Skullcruncher is kind of a pass (would have loved Weirdwolf instead but maybe that's coming later), Nightbeat is just a head which is lame, Rewind is awesome, I hope we get a full-on Chromedome from this, and...I guess that's all we saw.

Oh, and I like Thunderhoof and Quillface or whatever his name is from RID, might buy those two if I see them.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Blaster looks interesting. Not sure I would spend ~$50 on it though.

Not looking forward to Hardhead coming back in the comics, but the toy might be good.

I'm surprised they're not showing off the titular titan for Titan wars! Come on, I want someone to display next to my Metroplex already!

Most of these are a pass for me- I don't like Blaster in any of his modes, but the deluxes look really solid. That's a badass looking Galvatron and... Sentinel Prime is out of left field. And he turns into a train. I fucking love trains.

More news today from the Hasbro panel. Some highlights: apparently Hasbro is turning Combiner Wars and Titans Return into a trilogy, with a 3rd as of yet unknown chapter. Collectively they'll be called the "Prime Wars". IDW will be doing a Titans Returns event, but they'll have an event of their own before getting to that. More comic news is expected tomorrow with the IDW panel. Couple more new toys shown, and some hinted at in silhouette. A Voyager scaled Sentinel Prime (based somewhat on the IDW version) triple changer is in the works, looks like it'll be a retool of an upcoming Astrotrain.

Almost everything shown off looks good-not-great territory, except Stripes who looks downright bad.

I like the Titan Masters and their little vehicles, but their pricepoint will make or break them. Anything higher than $7, it's gonna be a hard sell.

Not sure why the designers still have a boner for making Rewind a tank, but whatever.

So Blaster's headmaster is Blaster, that's weird. I'm passing on this, most likely. I never liked Blaster enough to drop that level of coin, and the base mode looks too simple to justify dumbing down the rest of the modes.

I like Galvatron, I like Mini-Megs, but I don't like how Mini-Megs looks under the Galvatron helmet. As a Voyager, I will likely get this.

Skullcruncher and Hardhead look ok.

I don't really get why these gimmick figures are Titan Masters, there's no Titan involved in the line so far, kind of a weird choice to go with a generic title.

Not remotely thinking about getting Sentinel Prime, that sculpt doesn't work for the character and that color scheme doesn't work for anything that doesn't involve fire. Will buy when the inevitable repaint of Astrotrain is released.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

Stripes looks terrible. (I did not notice the first time I saw the picture.) It makes that disk-Ravage/Steeljaw from a few years back look good.

Rewind looks okay. I need to see Blaster. I would jump for a Voyager. No chance in hell I would buy it for Leader price though. (Nothing Hasbro has made for the last few years is worth that kind of money.)

The comics news sounds interesting. But, both titles seem to have the same creative teams from when I lost interest in the first place, so I doubt I will be picking them up.

Official images of Sentinel Prime are now up at TFW2005. His Headmaster is called Infinitus, but like Blaster, it is basically just a mini version of Sentinel.

I really wish I liked this figure more because I like the idea of having other Prime figures besides just Optimus and the occasional Rodimus. But all I see when I look at it is a red Astrotrain with Sentinel's head. Sentinel really needed to be some sort of truck.

I always enjoy seeing these remakes move beyond the 84-86 crowd. I like the look of Galvatron, and it's a nice surprise to see some headmasters like Skullcruncher. Blaster looks great, but as several of you have said, too big and expensive. I like the look of Sentinel Prime... might be tempted.
